How many consecutive weekends will " Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull " be #1 at the North American Box Office?

Settled as Only the 1st Weekend of Release at #1

1#http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24919591/

Background:

This question is, how many consecutive weeks (weeks in a row without breaking the streak starting with its opening weekend) will "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" be in the #1 spot at the North American Box Office (US + Canada)? In other words over and above all movies in release when "Indiana Jones 4" opens May 22nd and all new releases thereafter? So, do you think it'll open #1 and only be there on opening weekend or not even open #1? Or do you think it could go 2 weekends, 3 weekends, 4 weekends, 5 weekends in a row at #1 or maybe more?

If this movie drops out of the #1 spot over any weekend between May 22nd and the settlement date, then this question will be settled as such. Example, if it goes 2 weeks at #1, then upon box office results in its third weekend showing it no longer at #1, the bet "1 - 2 weekends at #1" Will Win and this question will end. If it goes 5 weekends at #1, then the "1 - 5 or more weekends at #1" Will Win, so it doesn't need to go six straight to win that last option. If it doesn't even open #1, then the Will not open #1, WILL WIN.
Does this make sense to everybody?

Good question..This is going to be such a big hit I believe it has the staying power for 3 weeks till The Incredible Hulk comes out-anything can happen though. Edward Norton(one of my favorite actors)is in the new Hulk movie, cant wait.

You're right man...... This is gonna be a HUGGGE hit!!! I don't think anyone is prepared for how massive a release this is gonna be! ... I alos think E.N. rocks man! I am glad they put him in this one, he brings legitimacy to the role and I think it'll be a darker Hulk and more like the comic book, so I am happy with this one more than the first one a few years back!
Also LOOK OUT for The Dark Knight! That one is gonna be the BIGGEST Batman ever and I think it'll be the #2 film of the Summer Season.
Thanks for the compliment on the question dude :-D
P.S. Cowboys picked up Adam "PACMAN" Jones and he may start Sept. 7th :-D ... Jerry Jones loves controversy man!!!

I agree lucid- this will most likely be the top grossing film of the year and doing some checking I really dont see any big time blockbusters to stop this movie from being on top box office for quite a while.
First scare- in my opinion, will be "Kung Fu Panda" opening June 6th. I believe Indiana Jones will squeek only to be topped by "The Incredible Hulk" in following week. All this is personal opinion, no facts or anything to back it up.

I am inclined to agree with you sdchargers! ... I think Panda will be less big then is being anticipated, but I have been really wrong lately in the CG department, as I thought Ratatouille woulda been HUGE, but alas, it was not :-(

I thought Sex in the City will be big, do you think it could knock Indy out of 1st place for a weekend?
posted 17 weeks ago
Not a chance man... Sex and the City might be big, but not even close to $35 million big as it is currently tracking at about $27.6 million opening, and Indy will likely make $50 million or wayyyy more in its 2nd weekend anyway as it is tracking for an opening of around $91 - $95 million ... So even if it fell like Iron Man is falling in its second weekend, it'd still top $40 - $45 million against Sex and the City.
Personally, and I may be sooooo ridiculously off, but I feel that Sex and the City will open in the mid $20's millions, so like around $25 mil, and I think Indy will open with closer to $101 - $108 mil, so in Indy's second weekend, which will be against Sex and the City, I feel Indy could easily top $50 - $60 mil.
Just my opinion and I have been way off before, hahaha, but if I am right, don't say I didn't warn ya :-P

Seeing as the first weekend is beginning, I think this should suspend NOW, as if it does make the #1 spot, people will take money out of the "not make #1 spot", so as a super user, I can suspend, lets discuss this first, when do the numbers come out on that site?

In the past we have allowed these type of questions to continue to run. For example we allowed this with another movie, and we are allowing in sports with the NBA Finals. I wish we had the option to suspend a particular option as it became irrelevant, so people would have whatever money is wagered tied up til settlement. Until then, I think the precendent is to allow this question and others like it to continue to run. Just my opinion. Love to hear what others think.

There's no way this will not be #1 this weekend. It doesn't have any real competition and even if it bombed, it would still take #1 by a mile.

Anyway, Luci (take that you nicknamer) designed this one to be somewhat in running (the Horton one was as well) and its his perogative to design the market within reasonable limits. I think it should stand.

I like letting it run. I think once numbers show it isn't at number 1 should suspend then and request settlement.
posted 15 weeks ago
Thanks guys for discussing in my absence and yes, I hear your concerns Skip, but I designed it to let it run, reason being, if the film actually did run for like 3 or 4+ weeks, just like NBA playoffs and stuff, then the numbers of course WILL move, but I also did NOT want to keep anyone out of this question as the film ran, you know what I mean?

I think Destry had the BEST idea, that say each Friday, the current portion of the question would suspend, this would tie people INTO a bet and so they either win or lose accordingly, and if they lost, they'd then have to use OTHER funds to bet on the next option, and so on and so forth, however, as HubDub has not set up such an awesome wagering system, I prefer to let it run :-D

Thanks guys, and CONGRATS on your S titles ;-)

I am curious what movie in the 3rd week of release people are expecting to knock this one out of 1st. If the trend holds, 120+ opening, means 60+ second and 30+ third. I looked at movies releasing on the third weekend and can't see one doing more than 30 million. Am I off base with my thinking.

Looks like your estimation is correct owl. It looks as if Sex and the City outperformed Indy by over 14 million on Friday.
Lets see if these numbers continue over the next two days.

I'm new to this site and I don't exactly get how this works. Last week I bet that Indy would spend just 1 week at #1, and I couldn't believe 98% were betting against me, when the movie so obviously sucked and everyone hated it. Anyway, now I see everyone changed their bets based on the actual results? What kind of gambling is this, where the odds shift completely because people can change their bets (or counter their bets) once the results roll in? Do I still get to collect at the bonkers odds all you fools gave me before, or am I now collecting short money because of these bizarre rules?

it's called a market... it's not like betting with your bookie...

Sweet! Thanks for the $3,685 owl, lucid, et al! I love the classic Indy as much as the next 34-year-old who dressed as him 3 Halloweens in a row, but even I can smell a stinker when I see one!

never under estimate the power of women. i was to chicken to bet much, but i figured sex and the city would do lots better than $26 millon. also bet indy wouldn't be number 1..again not much to chicken. i need to grow some nads if i'm gonna catch orlin before i turn 60.

Hahahaha ... BadB0y, I'm glad you are hapy now, lol... This site is great fun and if you want, you should read some of the other comments people have left here on this question which is exactly what you mentioned about people changing their bets. Might be helpful to know that we users don't care for this either ;-D
