For the "no money is received for baby photos" choice, received by who? Anyone? The press? A charity? The couple themselves?

I know this a minor quibble, but looking to avoid anyones hard feelings in advance. Thanks.
posted 20 weeks ago
Last time: "Pitt and Jolie contracted with Getty Images to take the first family shots. It has been estimated that pictures fetched in excess of $5 million, and all of the money went to charity."

Thanks epicur, good to clarify - no money is received by the jolie-pitt family.

Tisha, let me make sure I understand you correctly. If no money is received by the Jolie-Pitt family, then the selection "No money is received for baby photos" would win? The answers to this questions are all based upon the amount of money the Jolie-Pitt family receives?
posted 20 weeks ago
Tisha I think you need to re-clarify your clarification... That interpretation doesn't make any sense. "How much will they sell for" if they sell for 10 million which is immediately donated to charity that should be "10 million or more" not no $ received for pictures.

The only way it should be "no $ received" is if they decide not to release the pictures or just give them away for free. (I find that somewhat unlikely).

i agree with jenniandboys definitely!! Cause it's how much will they SELL for. which means if they are bought at all, which they will be, then that amount is teh answer. it's basically a given taht they will donate all the money to charity, so that is a moot point
posted 20 weeks ago
I beleive the intended question is how much will Pitt-Jolie sell them for, whether they keep the money or not. So if they sell them for 10 mill and donate it all to charity then 10 million wins but if they don't sell them then none received wins. At least that's how i read it.

"how much is someone willing to pay for me to see the pictures by accident in the grocary line on the cover of a worthless magazine that i won't buy anyway?" is how i read the question.... was i wrong?

Yes, the comment that 'no $ received' refers to a situation where they decide not to release the pictures or they are just given away for free. If they receive $10 million and immediately donate to charity, they have still received $10 million.

This is regardless of whether the family keep the money or if it is donated to charity. It is how much the pictures are sold for.

Tisha, thanks for the clarification. One last question. What if they give away the photos to a charity to sell themselves. I don't know the tax ramification of receiving $10 million profit then giving it to charity versus giving the charity an item and then they sell it. Sorry about all of these questions but I just don't want to get burned. Thanks again.

No problems Epicur. If we take this question to mean how much the photos are sold for, it does not matter if it is a charity group that sells of the photos. The question would refer to the final amount received for the photos as advertised by media sources, so the amount it is taxed should not really matter. Hope this helps!

oh, when does "No money is received for baby photos" settle? How much time after birth without reports about a selling?
posted 13 weeks ago
I believe the negotiations usually start about the time the babies are born, even if the actual pictures are usually several weeks in (Shiloh was under a week). How about when the twins are 1 month old? If it hasn't happened by then, then it probably won't happen.

(I think its pretty unlikely that they won't sell the pics though...)

If by the time the market suspends nothings happened we can assume option number one is the answer. Or if it's announced that the pictures are released for free we can settle early.

hmmm... as per Ryan's comment [#16], if the photos haven't sold by July 31, 2008, then "No money is received for baby photos" will be the winning prediction.

I believe that Ryan's comments aren't consistent with Tisha's comments earlier. I don't think we can assume that suspend date is to be used as a settlement date. I am going to flag to Tisha for more clarification.

As this is an event-based question, the suspend date is not so relevant in this question - it was an estimate I made months ago about when the babies were due, and may be pushed forward if, say, Jolie does not give birth until August or later etc.

If, after a couple of weeks after the birth, there is still no news about any pics being sold then we will settle as 'no money received'.

Please note that this might overrule what Ryan initially posted about the market at #16 - but go easy on him, he was covering about 5 markets while I was on leave!

So maybe the first photos will go for over 10 million, but what about these super-realistic sketches? http://suburbarazzi.lohudblogs.com/2008/07/14/exclusive-sketches-of-angelina-jolies-newborn-twins/

@Jenni
I bit on your link and looked at the super-realistic sketches.

I must admit that I was hoping for a "little" more detail,
but I see there is some bidding for even those sketches.

I've just suspended the market -- the AP is reporting 14 million which is the most definitive answer I've seen so far but I'm going to leave this suspended for a bit though and see if any other numbers pop up.

@ all
NEW YORK (AP) -- A person involved in the negotiations for pictures of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's newborn twins says the rights have fetched $14 million.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are the parents of newborn twins.

The person asked not to be named because he was not authorized to release the figure. People magazine scored the photos in a joint deal with the London-based Hello! magazine, and the two will split the bill.

It is the second time People magazine has won the North American rights to the couple's exclusive baby pictures in exchange for a hefty donation to charity.

The magazine will feature Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon in an issue to hit newsstands Monday, People spokeswoman Nancy Valentino said Friday. Valentino said she didn't know how much was paid for the photos, which were expected to fetch a figure that would dwarf previous baby-pic payouts.

@curios - Yep I think you're right. The 14million number is definitely gaining traction in the media. I think I will wait until at least 24 hours after the pictures hit the stands though (just two more days!), just in case.

Thanks!
