How much will Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull gross its opening weekend?

Settled as 110.01 - 130 Million $

http://www.the-numbers.com/charts/thisweek.php

Background:

Background: From LA Times:
Film fans at Sunday's Cannes Film Festival were the first to see Steven Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." The audience watched adventurer archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) following parchment maps that led to a cave with a long-lost treasure, while battling an evil, power-mad Russian agent (Cate Blanchett) and tossing barbs with his old girlfriend, Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen).

Ironically, a new documentary called "Bloodline" from filmmakers who have spent years deciphering coded maps found inside buried bottles near an obscure French village called Rennes le Chateau, have also made a startling find in a cave just a few hours drive from Cannes.

Could what they found (the footage above shows a tomb?) be evidence of a Jesus and Mary bloodline and the Holy Grail (as the filmmakers propose)? Or is it merely a hoax more convoluted than the plots of all the "Indiana Jones" films combined?

The only ingredients missing seem to be Indy's bullwhip and felt hat.

Probably the last Indiana Jones movie (at least with Harrison Ford in it) will be released on May 22nd. How many of you saw the 1st one in the theater when it first came out?

Do you mean domestic or worldwide? This matters.

Since its not explicitly stated US only, and its opening Worldwide on the same weekend, its Worldwide. :)

Man I am not betting till we know whether it's worldwide or North America! If it's North America, it'll certainly earn over $70, but worldwide it could top $110, so I don't know man.

leave it as whatevre u want actually...this is the 2nd tme in 3 days u admins have changed the meaning of a question and caused me to lose over 10k total so i'll never be visiting your site again...maybe in the future you'll start following your own rules such as "we'll get opinions for other users" or maybe do a little research yourselves before you arbitrarily make shit up

I admit I made a mistake, and this question should be settled on the numbers used at www.imdb.com, the settlement source stated in The Rules. This site quotes the US weekend box-office figures.

Sorry to see you go pisc4d!

tisha - can you please re-clarify: for THIS question will box office be settled by US or worldwide figures?

This question will be settled according to the weekend box-office figures at http://www.imdb.com/chart/ I understand that these figures are for the US only.

WTF?!? Why are you changing the rules?!? Your ORIGINAL QUESTION made no mention of US only, so it was quite OBVIOUSLY a WORLD WIDE total, since the movie is opening WORLD WIDE on the same weekend.

What a joke.

The figures and starting odds are definitely not aligned with projected worldwide estimates, they are too low to be worldwide. Will be settled according to www.imdb.com weekend box office figures.

There was no mention of US only but all box office questions are settled according to www.imdb.com by default if there is no external settlement source listed.

Amazing...

I posted the question and yes I assumed it was US box office. As that what the rules state I didn't think you needed to list it unless it was different from the rules.

Ah, so you mean the rules you didn't follow.

Gotcha.

Will this be a 3-day weekend figure, or the full holiday weekend figure?

This is such garbage! ... It is NOT stated whether this question pertains to the 4 days release weekend or the 3 day actual weekend weekend weekend, and Tisha says it's worldwide, then says it's US and was all this done without "thehistoryteacher" being in contact with Tisha or was Tisha in contact with "THT" and they still miscommunicated?
This is really biting my goat man! ... Why don't the admins NOT make a statement or a decision UNTIL the creator of the question can TOTALLLLLLY clarify the question to said admins? ... This changing and confusion junk is really getting on my nerves!
ALSO, IT IS NOT LISTED in the Settlement Details that www.IMDB.com is the friggin' Settlement site, so where on earth did that come from to make THAT site the official Settler of this question?
SECONDLY, why is it NOT in the DESCRIPTION whether this question pertains to the US or WORLDWIDE and also WHETHER it is a 4 day or 3 day total?????

My question gets VOIDED by Tisha cause I had a flippin' 5 lines of description text to detail the question QUITE clearly and cause some people were negligent and didn't use their eyes to read I got it VOIDED and then I reposted it virtually unchanged and yet this question stands even though several people have been livid about the unclearness of the description and settlement details and the Admins' changing the rules here and there!!
What A Joke!!!!

"pics4d" I AM SOOOOOOOOOO WITH YOU MAN!!! This changing of rules, randomly enforcing stuff, or just whacky decisions by admins is reallllllly pissing me off!!!

I know hat HistoryTeacher clarified in writing that it pertains to US, however, I am pissed because it is NOT in the description yet my VERY detailed question got Voided for a WAYYYYYYYY lesser misstep!!!!!!

i think lucidstates is a tad bit upset with my hunny Tisha. i get upset with ryan from time to time, but not gonna go off on him. if it was real money i could understand...for $H it ain't worth it. to be honest sometimes i feel the admins are out to get me. (except for tisha..she has me already) if your married tisha tell hubby i'm only kidding. i can see lucid's point cause i've had the same problem. we need a place to appeal when we feel we been ripped off by admins. don't know how that would be worked out. kinda like the fox guarding the hen house. maybe tom (i think thats his name) could be the judge. knowin my luck tom is tisha's hubby.

OK folks, I hear you. The furore of this question happened a few months ago - as you can appreciate a lot of situations have come up which we didn't anticipate, so we are often thinking on the run and sometimes make mistakes. However, we have made a few changes in response to what arose:

The creator is now the primary source for clarifications requested by users (unless they are basic errors or ambiguities which have to be regulated to be consistent with general Hubdub procedures). Creators will receive an email from me and will have the onus of clarifying, otherwise I will void after a set time period.

@triathematician, sorry I didn't find your post until now. The Box Office weekend period is defined in The Rules, http://www.hubdub.com/public/goodquestion

'"Opening weekend" will run from Friday to Sunday
If the opening weekend for a specified movie falls on a holiday weekend the outcomes for a question regarding opening weekend will be calculated using this extended weekend unless otherwise stated.'

I believe that the weekend of the 22nd is the Memorial Holiday weekend, so it will be 4-day figures.

Finally, I have added text to the background information and settlement details to clarify the ambiguities raised here.

So what about Thursday? Is this now a 5 day weekend? If it is not included, make sure to deduct it from the totals if it is included. Also, all of the numbers are still estimates. Might want to wait to actual numbers arrive so we don't have a reversal like Prince Caspian.
posted 1 year ago
On the radio this morning, everyone was saying that it made 130 or 131 Million in the US. And isn't it supposed to be settled by IMDB numbers?
posted 1 year ago
Here's the settlement source:
http://www.imdb.com/chart/

Its says 126 million...
That's for a 4 day weekend: May 23-26 (Thursday was not included)

Epicur is right though that these are just estimates. There usually isn't that large of a difference from actual to reality to push us out of the 110-130 range, but I agree its usually good practice to wait until the actuals come in. If you're holding onto 130+ stock, keep your fingers crossed!

Heh -- so much for waiting.
