What will be the closing price of Yahoo on the NASDAQ at the close of business on Monday, February 11, 2008?

Settled as Closing price will be between $29.00-29.99

The price of Yahoo shot up when Microsoft made an offer of $31 per share for the company. Now it seems that Yahoo is doing its best to reject the takeover bid. What will be the effect of this on the price of its stock?

The way the question is worded, if the stock close at exactly $ 30.00, there wil be no winners.

YHOO does not trade on the NYSE - it trades on the NASDAQ market

Correct! That's why the right answer is $0. Making the correct choice: $24.99 or less.

No. That's not right. The correct choice is not $24.99 or less. It just means that that either the Cat Ed should void or modify the question; Void would be better because thanks to your comment, people have started buying into that.

The specification of the exchange was rather pointless and unfortunately wrong, but I reckon it's a bit of a stretch to claim that it invalidates the question or generates any real confusion

Speaking of the Dow, wherever that is...
Heads up to fellow prognosticators and postulating predicters. This just in:
Chevron, Bank of America Added to Dow
Monday February 11, 9:19 am ET
Dow Jones Drops Honeywell, Altria From Industrial Average; to Add Chevron, Bank of America

NEW YORK (AP) -- Honeywell and Altria are being dropped from the Dow Jones industrial average, and Chevron and Bank of America will replace them as of Feb. 19.
Dow Jones says it is the first change in the makeup of the blue chip index of 30 stocks in almost four years.

This will mark Chevron Corp.'s third time as a component of the Dow 30. It was last dropped from the index in 1999.

Does this mean the Dow won't be in N.Y.City anymore? hee hee

I was making an inside joke about my sloppy comment last week regarding the N.Y.S.E. time zone... I had hastily made a post refering to a DOW time zone. just some laughs at my expense. The news is still worthy.
The Great Tom Robbins tome
"Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas"
has a wonderful albeit now dated take on the index.
The Protagonist recites the 30 companies every morning before she goes to work.

Appreciated the joke, Shadow :-D. I know most of the old stock books but haven't heard of that one. Will look for it, thanks! I still need to read Reminisces of a Stock Operator. Supposed to be one of the top three of all-time.

I have edited this market by changing it to NASDAQ, I have done this as this is clearly a simple mistake and do not wish to void a question garnering so much interest. If the stock does close at $30.00 exactly, I will settle as over $30.00.

I hope you understand my reasoning,

Andrew

Wow! Whoever bought in at 1% made a killing on this!!! And, tons of folks switched last minute to the > $30 answer. Ouch.

I'd like to see what the volume was on this question, got crazy at the end!

It traded over 30 in post market trading. If you look at the wording of the question it should include post market trading since the stock trades after hours every day.

Post market trading closed at 30.05. Over 30 should have won.

On nyse.com unfortunately it reads $ 29.87 as the closing price. It was 30.05 as a high.

You lucky 1%!!!

I thought the question was very plain and it is irrelevant what the high price was or what the after market trading price was. The NASDAQ closed and the closing price answer was 29.00-29.99...simple....I WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
posted 28 weeks ago
It was based upon CLOSING price and not AFTER MARKET HOURS TRADING PRICE... We win.. Woohoooooo... I was watching this one like a hawk and when I bet, I was like, MANNN this is toooooo close for comfort, but YAY it worked out :-D Praise the Lord :-D
