Shouldn't there be a "reprimanded by date?" Otherwise, no would never happen (unless he dies or retires...then again, I suppose they could still reprimand him in a way even then).

Boy, I hope not! The local media here (I live in AZ) is slandering Sheriff Joe. He's only checking the immigration status of individuals who are arrested, have outstanding warrants, or are pulled over for other reasons. No citizens can truthfully claim that he checked their immigration status randomly... and so far I haven't heard any claim that they were randomly checked.

The local media is also supressing the Phoenix Police Union. They want PHX Police to have the option to request proof of citizenship and detain/transfer illegals to ICE. The police, pressuring the union to make this request, claim that the majority of the criminal complaint calls they respond to involve illegals, directly or indirectly.

We've also had several citizens murdered, two of which were police officers, by illegals with outstanding warants.

Most of my friends, and 90% of my coworkers are Hispanic and they too are against illegal immigrants. If an individual is willing to break the law to enter, commit identity theft/fraud to work, then as a percentage they are far more likely to be willing to commit other crimes too, and the facts here in Arizona certainly back-up this theory.

Civil rights activist Cesar Estrada Chavez opposed illegal immigration because they undermined the United Farm Workers strike when employers replaced striking employees with lower wage illegals, and he reported illegals to the INS.

John McCain keeps saying we don't have enough workers. Yes we do! We're just not willing to accept, nor can we live on $8.00/hour under the table.

I live in Phoenix and when I saw how the mayor and feds are investigating Sheriff Joe on the news tonight I was goin to ask similar question Owl.
The Feds arent doin enough here in Phoenix to fight illegal immigration so Joe is taking upon himself to deal with the problem. just my opinion.

Owl1,

Could you possibly recommend a suspend date for your market. I don't want the market going on forever and ever.

Cheers,

Regards,

The wheels of the Justice Dept. move very slowly, if at all, but I guess a couple of months should be enough. How about June 30?

Amazing! What's wrong with America? You finally get someone that enforces the law, firmly and apparently fairly, and he's in trouble for it....

I have positions open. If he gets the sack there, he's hired here!

As a resident of Arizona and a retired CBP Officer I know that Sheriff Joe Arpaio is following Federal guidelines and is using deputies trained by ICE and CBP. He is so effective that even the local news programs that criticize him have reported illegals are leaving Arizona for more hospitable areas. Phoenix Mayor Gordon is a typical spineless politician doing what they do best, pandering to small but vocal "illegal lobby". They cry racial profiling because they don't have a legal leg to stand on.

If you happen to be in Phoenix some time, there is a spanish AM talk station (I think it is 740 on the dial)... it is so entertaining to hear them talk about Sheriff Joe - not a whole lot of love there! Also they will often make announcements about where the illegal roundups are happening. They are quite open about everything, probably because they think "Americans" can't understand Spanish...

Sheriff Joe - He may get my write in vote for the Presidential election.
Denver, Colorado is a sanctuary city for illegals too. Enough to drive me crazy - even crazier than I already am. . .

there are illegals everywhere in the country chatarra, believe me. I've never met or spoken with anyone who said "I'm so glad there are no illegals where i live! I'll just sit back while the rest of the country sorts itself out!!!"

Fact is, their illegal. the argument that none of us are natural citiznes (BS, I know a lot of people at least part native American anyways) doesnt make sense becuase we were LEGAL immigrants at the time.

The human rights argument also doesn't work becuase if your worried about their welfare why do you want them to try to walk across a dessert with no supplies, only to get here and make less than minimum wage with no benefits or rights? I find it funny that the human rights argument is usually followed or preceded by "Besides, you want to pay more for Tomatoes becuase we have to pay fair wages to American's to pick them?"

@IronMan -
Thought you might like to see 2 billboards that were paid for by the listening audience of a local radio host - Peter Boyles. They were positioned to be seen as you entered the downtown Denver area, in 2 different locations and they were up for about 1 month - 2 years ago in June 2006.

It also drives me C R A Z Y to hear on a phone recording "Press 1 for English"
I thought English was the primary language so we should not have to press anything to listen to recordings in English.

P.S. I do not have a problem with legal immigrants and recognize the valuable contributions they have made to our country.

Joe may not get an official reprimand from a Federal Judge because he is up for re-election. He is facing Dan Sabin, the former Police Chief of Buckeye. If the folks chasing Joe are smart politically they will wait until after the election and if Joe loses, the anti-immigrant issue will settle down because the voters will have spoken. If Joe wins the election the cacti will hit the fan. If you think the illegals are whining now...If Joe wins he will have a new mandate from the people to press forward with even more conviction. Nothing is going to happen by 6/30.

Sheriff Joe hasn't been "reprimanded in any way" so let settle this question and move on to even sillier questions :-)
