Will BHP succeed in its takeover bid for Rio Tinto before 30 June 2008?

Settled as No

No news of takeover

Background:

Mining giant Rio Tinto Ltd is prepared to enter into discussions with predator BHP Billiton Ltd once it recognises the value of the target, Rio Tinto Iron Ore chief executive Sam Walsh told an American Chamber of Commerce in Australia luncheon in Perth today.

Speaking with media after the event, Mr Walsh echoed Rio Tinto chief executive Tom Albanese’s recent comments that the $US147 billion ($A162.99 billion) takeover offer was about “two ball parks away from recognising Rio Tinto’s value”.

Settlement details: As reported by a major mainstream news source.
