By "post-partum," do you mean "found dead"? Because "postpartum" usually means "after giving birth," as in "postpartum depression" - and if this missing Catholic priest is pregnant, that's a really amazing news story.

indeed camicalm, quite amazing. I'm going to bet on that assuming it was meant to be "found dead" and will be edited.

Because if they find a priest floating in the ocean or wherever surrounded by balloons, then we can assume it's him.

This is a heart breaking story...... He was trying to raise money for a Spiritual Rest Stop for truckers.... This is truly saddening, and I am praying for him!!!

We all know that we all thought of doing this when we were kids. Am I the only one here that grabbed a bunched of helium birthday balloons and jumped off of a chair, just to see what happens? Hehe!

Seriously, though. This story is very sad. He made it up to 20,000 feet. Wow.

His balloons were found, he wasn't. http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30200-1313704,00.html

Steph, you were not the only one, and everyone else here did it too, hahahahaha, come on people, laugh at yourselves, you were all children once too, we know ya ain't above such things, hehe :-P
As for myself, I also jumped off a high porch once with an umbrella, see if I'd float down, hahaha, so yeah, we were all kids once :-D

I am very sad that they found his balloons and not him :-( ... It is just awful to think of what type of fear went thru the mans mind as he floated over the ocean with no available human contact! It must have been terrifying, and all while just trying to raise money, it is just extremely saddening. Forget the style in which he took off, I mean come on people, had he done a charity event of parachuting and his chute never opened, no one would be laughing at him as they are now because he happened to be strapped to balloons. I am disgusted by peoples mocking someone who is now most likely dead, while they tried to make a positive difference in this often unpleasant world.
If he'd been raising money at some event and someone came in and shot him, again, the response would be different and you all know it. Just look at yourself and think why you find it so necessary to mock someone who has now faced death, as you each will one day, and just laughed at him and mocked him. If you end up in a car accident, I hope that you do not receive the same mockery by gawking people standing by, just calling you an idiot while you burn to death or die from other injuries.
I am honestly just disgusted by so many people's lack of reverence, NOT because he's a priest! But because HE is a Human Being that deserves a prayer and a hope for safe return, NOT mockery at his plight! And DO NOT say he was an idiot, as he had a parachute, GPS tracking device, helmet and thermal suit, so he wasn't just some dude with a jillian balloons and a hobby, he was trying to help and he took allot of safety precautions, and believe you me, he is way more honorable for at least possibly dying to try and make a difference, then you are for mocking him for it! ... You have made only a negative impact on your world, not even trying to be helpful, while he at least tried to make a positive one.
Shame on those of you who mock someone in a difficult and scary time in their life!

have you not watched the video lucid? It was raining when he took off. Even in my childhood I had a clear understanding that it was not safe to fly a kite in the rain.
This poor man obviously guessed his self-righteous infallibility qualified him for a game of Russian roulette. He lost his ability to reason properly and the people who are associated with him who did not stop him are guilty of the same.
This is the same blind faith that is required to join a cult.

My bet's are still on him being found alive....Will God have the mercy to allow this guy a second chance? or is his time doing charity work over?

C'mon Gang! Holy Evel Knievel!

The little holy man was having FUN! If you choose extreme sports and are trying to beat the Guiness Book of Records, this ISN'T a Sunday Church Picnic. He was doing something that he wanted to do and he made it "all right" by doing it in the name of charity, which was fine.

He was brave -- had the thrill of a lifetime -- and went down trying. So doesn't that put him in the Steve Gossett circle? Steve got away with ALL of the difficult impossible stuff, and apparently got caught with something minor when he wasn't really trying...We all feel sorry for Steve BECAUSE HE LOST ON SOMETHING MINOR. But did we ever expect him to live through everything MAJOR that he did? Now, here's a priest -- loaded with baloons? -- doing the ultimate jump off a chair or a wall which we all tried (as noted above by others), floating like Daffy Duck at 20,000 feet? And you expected anything different?

He's gone to Meet his Maker and he's going to find Steve Fossett before any of us...And he had FUN!

When I was in High School, we were visiting the pyramids outside of Mexico City. A middle aged lady found out that a priest in our group had climbed the difficult pyramid to the very top. "Oh, did Father climb the pyramid as a penance?" she cooed. "No", my Mother replied, "he did it for FUN".

We're not sorry for baloon man personally -- We are only sorry that he didn't get away with doing what we always wanted to do as kids, and here is a holy guy who is brave enough, thrilled enough, and dumb enough to do it.

The new sport of...floating off with party balloons? And I swear I saw an episode of Mythbusters about this.

While not Mocking the guy...didn't he respond to the question about it being stubborn to do this in the rain by saying "there will only be good weather during my flight," just before he "vanishes in to thin air" (which looked very thick to me!)? And did I understand correctly that he was trying to raise money for a rest stop for truckers? What happened to passing the basket?

@Mork...you should know by now (from my pirates question) that the dinghy is used on a "ship." lol
