"By prize I mean just that, a prize is something that HubDub would give someone that they had not had already as a result of playing HubDub.
Does that make sense everybody? ... So a prize could be, 2 tickets to the World Series, umm, a '72 Camaro micro-machine, a pogo-stick, 3 magic beans, a $5 gift card to Applebee's, or a spanking as the others seem to want :-D
So, I think I answered the question, point is, right now if you are the BEST bettor, you don't receive anything literally for your success, so a prize if them "giving" you something literally, like I said above :-) "-Lucid

There is too much gaming going on for that

Well, I do not know if you are familiar with HSX.com ... The Hollywood Stock Exchange, it is similar to this, except you buy and sell "stocks and bonds" in movies and film stars, directors, etc. Anyway, way back in 1997, that game site kicked off, my brother and I were some of the first to join, kinda like here too, and I've played it ever since. Yup, 11 years now, anyway, we still have our original one account each. My point is this, that game site also had "gaming" going on, however, after just a few months, there were a sufficient number of players and that sort of thing vanished. The site reached 500,000 players relatively quickly and it has been going strong ever since. HSX.com is so popular and the markets are so vast that they act like the real stock markets, however, it is based upon box office returns, and to be truthful, HSX has become a leading indicator for how a movie will actually perform at the US box office during its first 4 weeks in release. A study was done about 5 years after it launched and they found that HSX players (as a whole) were predicting movies' box office returns correctly 9 out of 10 times, or a better analogy might be to say that a film was priced on the HSX market at $110 / share, meaning the 4 week box office total would be $110 million, well it would actually fall within a couple million dollars of that, 90% of the time.
So what is my point? That this game site will (over time) gain enough users that it will no longer be "gamed" and will actually be a pretty good indicator of the actual outcomes of real life events, thus creating a legitimacy that will then allow the creators to take it to the next level. I do not mean that they WILL give prizes away, but the point is, it should easily become a mainstream game site with hundreds of thousands of users, thus eliminating the concern you mentioned.
I love this site and these types of game sites :-D

Happy trading (betting) folks,

lucidstates, I get what you are saying, but my point is that hubdub is in beta and June 30 is way too soon to focus on preventing gaming to such an extent that prizes may be offered.
posted 38 weeks ago
What kind of prizes? I mean, say the site offers "incentives" that are site-related, that have no monetary value in any way. Would that be a prize?
posted 37 weeks ago
be could get entries into a draw to decide who gets the "comment spanking" of the month

Hey all hubdubbers, the admins who control this site want EVERYONE'S input on how to deal with this cheater Satyaki and ALL future gamers ... They are asking for everyone to post their opinions and suggestions for the official rules on this link:
http://getsatisfaction.com/hubdub/topics/proposed_new_procedure_for_dealing_with_gaming?
This ongoing problem stems from this:

Here is the LATEST proposal from hubdub admins that they desire our say on:
Admins want a 4 strikes and your out process:
Proposed new procedure for dealing with gaming
Hubdub Representative
To date we have dealt with gaming on a case by case basis. However it has become clear that we need to have a defined process for dealing with individuals that game. Therefore this is our proposed procedure:
1. First identified instance/set of instances: Email warning
2. Second identified instance/set of instances: Email warning, user placed on public watch list (for 2 weeks) and fined 50% of worth
3. Third instance/set of instances: Email warning, user placed on public watch list (for 2 weeks) and fined down to H$1,000
4. Any subsequent instance will result in their ability to create questions removed and potentially suspension of their account.
We propose to apply this procedure for all new instances of gaming however some users are on their first warning and one user is on their second warning.

HOWEVER, several of us users are calling for a MUCH stiffer penalty process and this is our overall latest proposal back to the admins:
We want a 3 strikes you're out process:
1. First identified instance/set of instances: Email warning, user placed on public watch list (for 2 weeks) and fined 50% of worth.
2. Second instance/set of instances: Email warning, user placed on public watch list (for 2 weeks to 30 days) and fined down to H$1,000. AND removal of the gamers' right to create question for a period of time.
3. Any subsequent instance will result in definite, permanent suspension of their account, their IP and all other accounts by the gamer.

Have your say and please add your input at the area the admins have set up for this purpose:

I was contacted by Tom from HubDub this morning asking me to clarify this question and so he will be announcing it officially that the t-shirts DO NOT count as the prizes that this question asks about and by my previous posts, I thought I'd made that very clear, as the prizes I am asking about in this question are for HOW a player performs, which has nothing to do with filling out a survey, so I do apologize to anyone who still misunderstands that, but I've made it as clear as possible for the 2 months since I created this question, that by awarding prizes I mean that they would be awarded based upon PERFORMANCE of your bets, thus your rankings, nothing else.
Sorry again for any inconvenience.

Hi all, as lucidstates (question author) clarifies, the prizes must be performance related. Good luck. And make sure you complete the survey ;)
