My Predictions

Will the 'no' option percentage be greater than the 'yes' option percentage at the suspend date (1 month)?

Settled as No

Yes = 50.17% at suspend

Background:

Ah, once again the paradoxical question, by wagering, you put the odds out of your favour!

These questions are dumb, rhetorical, and quite honestly a suckers bet.

They should be banned or voided, but Hubdub cab do what it wishes.

The last time I posted a question like this it was questioned, however it cannot be gamed and some people *cough* like the paradox in betting against what they think most people would bet on.

skipper probably thinks this is terribly clever and original. It isn't. I have seen this exact question many, many times here, and it's against the rules (self-referential).
posted 34 weeks ago
Its not against the rules, it can't be gamed and its a cute little question. Thanks for posting it again Skipper. I never put more than 20$ in, but I like to watch the market wiggle.

After all the mess of last night it made me smile to see this question this morning.

The question will be won by whomever has the most money and throws it all one one side late.

Don't bet on this question unless you have enough cash to ensure that you can make your side victorious in the final moments.

bcguelph - The question is trickier than it looks. If you throw 10,000k onto 'no', then the questions swings to 'yes' and you lose your money. Large bets are self-defeating on this question and thus most people put in small stakes and watch the percentages shift from 49.8 to 50.2 obsessively through the weeks.

Your point is why other self-referential questions were banned. For the prior discussion and to see the wiggley graph, check out the last one: http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Will_the_no_option_be_a_greater_percentage_than_the_yes_option_at_suspend_date_3126/view

From my understanding of the Hubdub rules, (which should be good....) this market is fine. Here's a copy of the rules referring to self-referential markets:
* Self-referential questions which can be gamed easily like "Will this question get on the homepage?" or "Will this question get H$100,000 in predictions?" are not allowed and will be voided
* Self-referential questions that cannot be settled to all outcomes (e.g. "Will this question be voided?") are also not allowed and will be voided

Ryan

Hey skipper, since the question is will "No" be _greater_ than "Yes", if it ends up 50/50 it should settle as "No", right?

<takes bow>
<looks puzzled>Why does AAA ask you by comments and not just ask you directly at home
<Realises>Oh, might be because he wants everyone else also to know

Rohan -- there's a comment about AAA and Skipper communicating via comments in the "addiction thread":

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SKIPPER!!! :-D
I'm sending you a keg, 20 dancing girls, and a giant cake! Hope it all goes well for you this coming year.

Happy B-day whoever you are man :-D

...

Also, I totallllly dig this question, I have watched these for months and they are great! I still get frazzled when trying to figure out how to win, but that is soo much fun :-D

  25 skipper[Power User]
haha, thanks Lucid!
if it is 50/50 then 'no' wins :D
posted 30 weeks ago
it is hard to make it 50/50...it would take like a 1$ bet...the actual odds are shown when you place a bet...

true
posted 30 weeks ago
Dude, it was 49% by 51% when I made the bet, and I bet $100, so it evened it to 50/50 ... I do not know WHAT I am talking about, nor do I understand this question, hahahaha, but it is fun, so yeah, if I win, YIPPEE :-D
posted 30 weeks ago
DUDE, I just did it again!!! 50/50 hehe WOOT ;-D

Okay, so please tell me something ... I bet $100 at 49.something percent and it says it pays $202 and then the odds totally swapped and now I bet on NO for $100 and it says that I get paid $203.
SO, if I hold my positions, I am guaranteed to make $2 or $3 profit!!!
WOOOOOT!!! Now that is smart of me, wow, I am sooo brilliant! Hahahaha :-P
Man, if I did this everyday I might make enough for a HubDub Latte in about a week, hahahahaha :-P
I like this game, sure I didn't make like hardly ANY money, but at least I'm profitable.
Did I figure out how to play this question or am I still missing the point?
