Will there be a cull or relocation of 400 kangaroos in Canberra, Austraila ?

Settled as Culled (as in killed by any means)

Settled based on the 99% rule, as there have been numerous reports the cull will go ahead due to the prohibitive cost of relocation. If the cull fails to go ahead, there may be a resettlement.

Australia can hardly take the moral high ground with Japan over whaling if they allow this cull now that's all over the globe.

I am totally against killing animals, but the issues are quite different here. Kangaroos are vicious little buggers and they are a pest in Australia because they are breeding prolifically. Japanese whaling is in contravention of an international treaty against whaling, and it is occurring in Australian antarctic waters which brings up legal issues and threats to the species.

so is it a killing or territorial issue ?

It's a killing issue which Australia is in a position to fight legally through territorial issues.

threatening to kill would be a good way to get the activists to pay for a relocation

Coriander Chilli Kangaroo

Ingredients:

* 2 x 200-220g Kangaroo Loin Fillets
* 2 medium eggplants, cut each into 6 slices
* Coriander Chilli Marinade
* Mix together in a bowl
* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 2 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
* 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
* 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper

Method:

* put Kangaroo fillets in the marinade and set aside for 15-30 minutes

* Heat a heavy based flat grill plain or ribbed pan until hot. Cook fillets over high heat for 1-2 minutes on each side or until meat springs back when squeezed with tongs. If coking to medium reduce heat, cook further until kangaroo feels firmer

* Remove onto a plate and stand for 5 minutes to rest

* Meanwhile, brush eggplant with olive oil, add to pan, fry on both sides until golden

* Cut Kangaroo fillet diagonally into 4 slices. Put 3 slices cooked egg plant, onto each plate, top with 2 slices Kangaroo fillet and garnish with extra lemon wedges, mint or coriander. Serve with Tabhouli.

They're dithering. A good sign for those Coriander Chilli steaks.

meanderingsearcher's questions are always intriguing and thorough. Several people ahead of me have commented often that his questions are the best on hubdub, and I agree wholeheartedly...

But what happened on this question to the "none of the above" option? Maybe reprieved, neither culled nor relocated, postponed until next voting year, etc.

Qantas might have to take the kangaroo off their tail, OR advertise that even the kangaroos are taking Qantas to New Zealand...to escape...

Seeing as the question's settlement date is not for another 38 weeks, I think we can sit on this a while to see if one of the options does come up. If neither occurs, obviously the question will have to be voided.

well the culling has started already, so one thinks an early settlement may be warranted
PS. Roo steaks are tasty IMHO

Man, seriously, that Coriander Chilli Kangaroo recipe is so good... you should fire up a barbie, and throw a few recently culled Canberra kanga steaks on and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Better than prawns, but that's a personal call.

Kanga Bangas :-). Kangaroo meat is actually really healthy, and given hard-hoofed cows are totally destroying the fertility of the soil in Australia, should be the meat of the future down under.

They sell it in major supermarket chains. I personally like gamey meat so have no problems eating our national emblem.
Never tried Coriander and Chilli with Kangaroo - thought that combo is more for seafood?? Unless I can do Coriander and Chilli steak as well? haven't tried that either!
