In 2003 Georgia had a "Rose Revolution" where current President Mikhail Saakashvili came to power in a bloodless coup. This past fall there were major political uprisings against Mr. Saakashvili centered around claims of corruption which led him to censor the media temporarily and call early elections where he was re-elected by a large majority.
