Will these Zip-ties lead to an arrest?

Settled as No

Will the person or persons responsible for stringing zip ties across the road be found and charged with any crime, by 5-10-2008 midnight EST.

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. police are looking for the person who strung plastic zip-ties across a road in that town. The ties were four to five feet off the ground between utility poles -- neck-level for bicyclists or motorcyclists. Police said if someone was riding fast enough, they could be seriously hurt or even killed.

Police said that the ties were found strung across Grove Street by Belknap Road at about 10 p.m. Monday and 9 p.m. Tuesday. On Wednesday, police discovered a stash of the zip-ties in the woods. "This appears to be a concerted effort," Shastany said.

All of the zip-ties were sent to the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab for testing. Witnesses reported seeing a white man in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall with a stocky build near one of the utility poles Tuesday night.

Motorcyclists said the incidents should not be taken lightly.

I have ridden a motorcycle through 43 of the States in the USA. The thought of being suddenly swept off my bike because of something like the zip ties being strung across the street is quite scary. I even have 3 official saddle-sore 1000's to my credit. This is where you ride over 1000 miles within 24 hours, which requires a lot of night riding, or (just kidding) averaging about 200 mph during the daylight.

As for what the charges would be, you raise a valid question - I am not really sure. But at the least, they can be charged with some type of violation of air space. I don't know an easy way to explain this, but for example if a delivery truck has something sticking out of the rear bed, and the truck is parked in such a way that the protruding item is struck by another vehicle, then the delivery truck driver is at fault in the accident for not leaving a clear path for vehicles to travel down, even if the delivery truck is parked and the driver in not in the vehicle. His act of parking in such a manner is cause for damages.

In Canada I think they would be charged with "public mischief", unless someone got hurt, then it would be far worse.

Charge them with attempting manslaughter. This type of thing can kill quite easily, and should not be taken lightly. No way this can be considered "just a prank". It's far beyond throwing snowballs at passing cars.

Hey guys, the Hubdub team fixed the settlement, so that people who did not get paid for their correct prediction the first time, should have been paid the second. Let me know if there were any problems. -- Diana
