My Predictions

Will yoga's question be voided/modified for the subjective language rule that was seemingly invented for my "Traitor Carter" question?

Settled as Yes

The question wording was changed.

Background:

yoga's question: http://tinyurl.com/5pyc9c

my question: http://tinyurl.com/6gktcd

my question's original wording: "Will the Traitor Carter meet with Hamas officials, in Syria, by the end of April, 2008?"

question modified by hd to elimante "Traitor" on the grounds of an "unwritten rule" stating that questions must be objective.

instead of using the tinyurl services, you could take the original HD url and just take out the portion where the question is:
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/_5912
instead of
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Who_will_acknowledge_defeat_and_go_first__Will_The_USA_acknowledge_defeat_in_Iraq_and_leave_before_Mugabe_acknowledges_defeat_and_steps_down_as_president_5912/view
and
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/_5710
instead of
http://www.hubdub.com/e/Market/Will_Jimmy_Carter_meet_with_Hamas_officials_in_Syria_by_the_end_of_April_2008_5710/view

Important is to leave the underscore in front of the question id. The question title is in there just for search engine optimization purposes.

What's so bad about posting the whole link?

it too long in many cases.
in fact, when posting the complete url, one can actually see what it's about without clicking on it.

That's kind of my point, I like to know what the market is w/o clicking on it. Why would that be a bad thing? Its not like copy/paste takes all that much effort...

you're absolutely right. I wanted to sound that as being a advantage (but it didn't work obviously)-

but when writing the background info of a question it ofter clutters up the space in the text editor.
and as in my comment #1, when viewed on a display with lesser than 1600 pixel horizontal resolution, it destroys the website layout.

I appreciate jenny's and kruijs' abilities and awareness of all this computer stuff. I think it's fascinating how much I've learned from Hubdub about computers, let alone the stock market and its inner mysteries! Thanks, fellow Dubbers :)

Well, since the word "traitor" affects neither the question or the outcome, i see no reason to have changed it.... I like a little subjectiveness, as long as the question itself is objective and proveable...I think that this is a case of overly-sensitive editors...it's not like we are journalists, we are playing a game...lighten up HD editors...I can't imagine a question about Bush without the word "Devil" before his name... as in "When will the Devil Bush be prosectued for his crimes against logic and sensitivity, not to mention crimes against humans and nature?"

There was discussion on the use of subjective language on the getsatisfaction site:
http://getsatisfaction.com/hubdub/topics/how_do_we_deal_with_markets_with_highly_subjective_language

It takes all of 30 seconds to sign up and is the forum where rule chages are discussed and ratified. Anyone interested in protesting current rules or influencing future ones should make their voice heard there.

"Satisfaction" is also a good place to rant and discuss as opposed to flying your fury on the questions' pages... But for some. I feel badly that that might be their need? Great debate differs from paint ball blasting..

I've got to admit that for shorter URLs I do prefer ours with shortened or missing question text to tinyURLs. This is primarily because I can often figure out what the market is just from the number. Also tinyURLs are a little like Russian Roulette, since they could be used to redirect to any kind of inappropriate material.

We're looking at the best way to shorten down URLs for long questions right now, and are open to suggestions
