Norway Should Apologize for the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

Most descriptions of the award of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama have been shortened. The Nobel Prize website says it has been awarded to Obama “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
One of the criticisms of this award is that Obama was nominated after only 11 days in office. Having actually expended very little effort, other than campaigning for the office, and having actually accomplished nothing by the time the prize was received seems antithetic to the letter and spirit of Alfred Nobel’s desire to reward and acknowledge those who have done the most for humanity.
