Reward question writers with a % of the cash their markets generate.

It would sure be nice to be able to earn money from the question creation process. Even a small percentage paid when a market successfully settles would help build net worth. :-)

lola - the forum below has 8 pages of comments on the subject. i was in favor of some monetary reward till letme pointed out it could cause other useres to steal questions. theres no rule stating anybody owns a question. its HD "tradition" that if a member creates a weekly question that nobody else messes with it. you add money (even H$) to that and i could see people breaking the "tradition."

Great suggestion.. Just because the "tradition" has generally worked, but this change which would be beneficial would require some kind of rough patent right, or other process, does not negate the idea. That is, if this problem can be addressed , then lets get it going....(keep working lola)..

There are many different ways to play hubdub, depending on your interests. There are many different ways for each of us to establish personal prestige and image on Hubdub: (1) some by their persistence and efforts (remember how many times cognos lost his shirt and came back successfully?), (2) some by regularly participating in either "comments" under questions or forums like this one and becoming known to their hubdub friends, (3) some by their wonderful talents in writing questions (which I admire very much), and (4) and some by their accomplishments in $H. Some do well in sports (sports questions comprise a full 74% of all questions on hubdub), and some (like myself) are pure amateurs in sports. Some are good at the stock market (count me out); some are good at politics. Some have been appointed Superusers for their fine achievements and general respect on hubdub. Everyone establishes their image and prestige on hubdub in their own way and according to the efforts that they put into playing hubdub. You can get as much (or as little) out of hubdub as you wish. None of us are "paid" for our efforts in promoting the hubdub community.

Being a highly respected and successful question writer IS IT'S OWN REWARD. Alas, I screwed up question writing very early on hubdub and realized that it was not going to be my forte. I very much admire our fine established and successful question writers. I often act as a consumer advocate on the part of hubdubbers and sometimes particular hubdubbers, but I don't expect to be paid in H$ for my services. It's a part of my contribution to the hubdub community.

It has also been suggested in the past that hubdubbers who regularly make numerous "comments" should also be "rewarded" for their participation. That also would not make sense, and is a part of each individual's contribution to hubdub and enjoyment of the game.

The people who really work around here and deserve additional REAL compensation are our category editors. From what I can tell, it is an exhausting underpaid job with all the joys of running the fraud department at the bank. We expect them to be absolute experts in everything an get upset with them when they produce a rare unfair settlement. Well, there have been FOUR unfair settlements this past week that I know of, but we tend to forget the 99.9% of the time that they do a great job for us. I recently proposed -- as your consumer advocate again -- that we have a CATEGORY EDITORS DAY to honor our category editors and superusers, and thank them at least one day a year for looking after us. I hope this suggestion will be taken seriously and occur soon.

As for other forms of payment, the prestige you earn for the efforts and image you put into hubdub IS IT'S OWN REWARD. Everone has the ability to earn hubdub bucks the old-fashioned way: we ALL started with H$ 1000. Whether you are known for your question writing, or your sports knowledge, or your comments, or your forum discussions, or your H$ performance, etc, etc, EVERYONE HAS THE ABILITY TO BE A STAR ON HUBDUB. Get busy and participate and make yourself known.

The very last line should read:

EVERYONE HAS THE ABILITY TO BE A STAR ON HUBDUB. Get busy and participate and make yourself known, and STOP looking for H$ payment for your efforts...

Step 1 - add an attribute to a user name that increases when the user creates a question, and moreso when the question generates a large amount of activity. You could also just do H$, but I don't think that's strictly necessary.

Step 2 - If a question writer feels his recurring question has been 'stolen' by someone, let him appeal to a moderator.... he should create the question anyway, since hubdub allows it, as far as I can tell, and then the moderator should kill the one made by the person who tried to steal it.

Step 3 - Now you have a reward system for writers.

My bias? I am a regular, if not highly active, hubdub question writer, so of course I'd like to see a reward for my 'player class' in the system.

Maybe reward the question writer based on how well he guessed the initial percentages, and the amount of activity the question generates.
