South Carolina Candidate Raffles Off AK-47 at Campaign Rally

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- A candidate to be South Carolina's next National Guard leader skipped the fiery speeches for firepower, launching his campaign with what he called a "machine-gun social."
The Greenville News reports some 500 people came out to a shooting range Saturday for Republican Dean Allen's political rally. He wants to be the next adjutant general, the person who leads the state's National Guard.
Attendees paid $25 for barbecue, a clip of bullets for target practice and the chance to win a semiautomatic AK-47. Whoever wins the rifle will have to undergo a background check.
South Carolina is the only state that elects its adjutant general.

isn't that the machine gun preferably used by terrorists and revolutionary forces, once build in the Soviet Union? doesn't the US make own fire arms in that quality, or is it a political statement?
dieseldogfirst the AK-47 their refering to is not a machine gun. this is only a guess but the AK-47 is kinda like a ferrari. its cool to have one. they drew more people by making the prize an AK-47. if they offered say a 22 cal or 12 guage shotgun the turn out would most likely not been as big.

ain't america great! the link above is why you have videos like the one in the greenville link. theres videos all over the net of what looks like 12 or 13 yr olds kids shooting machine guns. i personally don't own a machine gun, but if one wants to jump through the hoops, and pay the fee's their allowed to own one.

An Indian farmer’s daughter disarmed a terrorist leader who broke into her home, attacked him with an axe and shot him dead with his own gun.

Rukhsana Kausar, 21, was with her parents and brother in Jammu and Kashmir when three gunmen, believed to be Pakistani militants, forced their way in and demanded food and beds for the night.
Their house in Shahdra Sharief, Rajouri district, is about 20 miles from the ceasefire line between Indian and Pakistani forces.
It is close to dense forests known as hiding places for fighters from the Lashkar-e-Taiba group, which carried out the Mumbai terrorist attack last November.
Militants often demand food and lodging in nearby villages.
When they forced their way into Miss Kausar’s home, her father Noor Mohammad refused their demands and was attacked.
His daughter was hiding under a bed when she heard him crying as the gunmen thrashed him with sticks. According to police, she ran towards her father’s attacker and struck him with an axe. As he collapsed, she snatched his AK47 and shot him dead.
She also shot and wounded another militant as he made his escape.
Police have hailed the woman’s bravery.
