Sorry. I just wanted some privacy. I will be glad to share my Olympic choices. Right now, I am supporting the UK's Mark Cavendish, Spain, USA and other European country because I think Denmark might surprise everyone. This is different from the tours of Italy and France, etc because it's shorter so it kind of depends on whose got good legs THAT day.

can all users now see who predicts on what question? I don't think I like it that way...any way of changing this?

Would like your opinion an an olympic question. I have found many sites/forums/blogs that have early predictions on who will win the individual apparatus medals in gymnastics.
However there is a qualification round and only the top eight scores from each apparatus continue on to the final of that event and chance for medal.
So, question is - Would it be better to wait until the eight finalists are known for each apparatus before asking, or ask early but run the risk of some names might not even make finals. There is a week between qualifications and the event finals which leaves plenty of time for these questions to be asked and wagering. Just checking to see if your opinion is like mine and to wait till the finalists are known.
I found a few good sites for the gymnastics info, among them is this forum I check almost daily. It seems to have pretty knowledgeable users.

Hijacking index questions? I think there is serious questions about whether predicting the 10's digit of the dow is newsworthy, but it is a fun question. Something like a lottery. I wish business questions were treated same way as sports markets and suspended before they started. But that isn't how it is.
I don't see any harm in experimenting with the suspending times. I made sure it was clearly marked on each market I "hijacked".

I like the idea. I think it should be done gradually. I'll move it to 15 minutes before on the NASDAQ on the next post and to 20 minutes next week and so on. The DJIA could be a 5 minute. My friend Kelly has been playing with alternate suspends to keep people on their toes. Thanks for the headsup.

When I dropped off Mrs. Valornhonor @ her job as mgr of our local AMC theatre this morning, along with a new pair of shoes that she's worn out running this week at work, she mentioned that in addition to the sellout of all five screens, all night last night for The Dark Night, that they had already sold 1,900 seats last night, for today for people that were turned away, the volumes for this movie are simply staggering!

Seeing your olympic questions got me interested in finding more info and questions to ask about the olympics. It seems really hard to find many events that already have announced who is actually participating. Maybe I'm overlooking it, but have you been able to find this info? Getting them asked soon is always better than later to give more time for users to wager on them. Let me know if you have any special sites to gain good info for question creating.

the "gain" this is referring to is my quartley gain. i never lost $2,472 over night. is this saying my "cashin" value (on my open predictions) increased by $2,472 over night? if so my networth shouldn't have went down..correct? only thing i see consistent is science is my worse catagory.

Hey you know that question you made "How much money will McCain make in june?". Well junes over and the suspend date is over. When do we find out how much money we made or lost?

I know. I haven't been playing for long but when i started this i thought politics would be were i win the most money, however i lost about half my money in it and gained almost all of it back in sports where i know practically nothing.

I like politics also but has not like me recently.

just a query for a superuser---i am almost certain that the amounts are different from what they were last night on the dance questions. I expected 900 minus the 150 i bet incorrectly and instead got about 500. do the amounts change after the event? I'm confused.

Thanks for the shout. I posted the baseball questions a few days ago when I noticed letmewinplease and taternutz didnt. A couple people left good comments on them and suggested that they possibly asked further in advance instead of just one day. I agreed, and thats the reasoning for so many past couple days. Unless someone says something about wanting to create some baseball questions or for a certain team I hope to keep them going being created at least a few days in advance.
You superusers do a great service for hubdub. Do you guys have certain categories you monitor or do all of you all keep an eye on all sections? I notice you mostly flag/suspend/correct questions in politics and entertainment. No matter how it works I like it. I have commented or flagged and each time you guys have been there with an answer within minutes.

This is an example question. Under INFO it has some special settlement rules. It seems like there is an hour time frame before close. If there is I think it is a great idea.

Thank you for taking time to send me a reasoned and logical comment on my massive movie marketplace.... :)

Plz allow me to engage you in a conversation about this. Here is what I'm thinking:

1.) I feel strongly about creating markets that are interesting, require some thought, are not completely random and require more effort and imagination than just looking up a websit and getting an answer simply.

2.) I'm happy to be, and was anticipating this, to be the Poor Soul to add up these results, Yes, all 188 results for movies released during 2008. Which is a slight variance to the website that includes all movies SHOWN in 2008, including those that launched late in 2007, but were still showing.

3.) I'm also willing to forgoe any wagering myself, I know it may sound a bit twisted, but personally I would enjoy tracking the bets, even without any personal benefit.

4.) OK, maybe a little personal benefit, in the interests of full disclosure, my wife manages a theatre and me keeping up with this market for the year would be a tangible way for me to stay engaged and interested in some of the economics of her career.

5.) As mentioned there are a lot of obscure movies here, deliberately. I started with all 2008 releases and then extracted those with limited release.

6.) I cringe at the idea of buckling to what is looking like a recent trend of some of our members fly specking markets and quibbling, they seem to be enjoying finding things wrong with markets more than the process itself. Kind of like sitting watching an elaborate stage show but not allowing yourself to fully enjoy it because you had difficulty finding an optimal parking spot on the way in. C'mon peole, enjoy the site for what it is!

7.) Regarding how to consider a movie, I'm going with the genre that is listed first after the movie name in comments to determine where to put it.

In summary, I'm not loooking to cause trouble, I would be willing to personally add this all up next winter, and not wager on it myself. However, if y'all decide that I'm causing too much of a ruckus I can step back, take the void and resubmit as you've suggested. It would be a lot simpler, I admit, but not nearly as interesting I think. I chose to correspond with you here rather than comments in the hopes that you and I can talk before opening it up to the world for a squabble.

Plz let me know what you think, I won't protest your decision any further, just wanted to let you know what I was thinking.

hey there red! good to hear from you. about the only thing settled this early for the tour is the names of the teams that have been invited although even that can change. each team won't name their riders (limited number) until closer to the start so that their personal success can be evaluated.

we liked brandon and evan and both were eliminated last night. we like the 18 year old kortni (?) and william wingman (?) and i really do not like sarah from miami. she should not have been moved forward. looks like a tramp. i'm really sorry to have lost evan. he's the one who did the hat thing and they said he looked like gene kelly? we really enjoyed seeing him dance.

I'm still wondering how I work that McCain question. I replied back to your comment. Recently, the expansion to the G.I. Bill became a hot topic due to McCain's opposition to it. Obama had found a perfect window of opportunity and attacked McCain on it.

I finally have a weekend that I don't have to work and decided to spend some time shouting out to all of my HD friends that I've been neglecting. I've enjoyed a lot of your challenges and questions, but I'm pretty sure you have a lot more time to devote to HD than I do. Having said that I _really_ enjoy everyone's challenges. If it weren't for challenges I'd have hardly any H$ invested ... as it is I'm only 1/3rd invested.

That is so sweet of you!!! My son (grrr) didn't even send greetings.. yet.. Sigh- when boys wed, they are basically gone.. But I adore him and my daughter in law, and I will be "Gee" in November for the first time, so there is joy! I hope your day is full of special moments and memories..

As you know, cognos is in Houston and I am in Dallas. This past week was our best weather of the year; you were fortunate to see it. And if you were possibly here for our tornado weather, that's just part of our spring...but it "shor was purty" outside, briefly....I'm sure Great Grandma told you all about our summers....
