My favorite country Switzerland. I try to vacation there as often as possible. One of my favorite towns is Wengen.
I'm reducing my online hubdub time drastically. The reason can be seen in my avatar picture.

Thanks for the poll information. I did some research on my own, and realized the polling figures didn't set the odds as much as the distance between them. With CSU at 48% and SPD at 22%, CSU has a much higher than 48% chance of winning.
Hey Stijn. Can you find me "proof" of better odds for the Bavaria question. I need a link, then I'll void it, and get the creator to resubmit with better odds.

Leeds Rhinos are an English Rugby League time. You should watch the game it's brilliant (I am biased as I work in the Sport).
The odds are pretty fair with St Helens as the favourites and Hull as outsiders but with potential if you fancy a new bet.

Yes, the Radiohead video is freaky, but the technology is pretty intriguing. Did you watch the "Making of ..." video?
You may have heard about this already, but Radiohead has made an entirely digital music video without using cameras. Pretty cool!

Logistics question:
Short version: How do I manually find unmet challenges & can it be easier to look up?
Long version: As I am sure you do to a far higher degree than I, I am often hammered with challenges. This happens to the degree that I spend significant amounts of time completely ignoring them & other times looking at them exclusively.
Because of "the way I roll" I have times with all my worth invested (getting challenges I can't meet without cashing out of a current position) but I also end up with occasional large piles of cash that need to be reinvested such as end-of-month or certain events. Example: yesterday/today being the MLB All-star break, I had a lot of baseball questions with positions that were decided "by the all-star break".
I haven't looked through everything everywhere but it seems I have 2 options when it comes to meeting challenges; either react to the bar that shows up across the top of the initial screen when I login or go hunting through e-mails for challenges I didn't accept when they initially came in.
My question is: Could we have a URL in a place that makes it simple to go to challenges that have not been met that does not go away once we navigate away from that page?
I'm certain that there are many things more important, but I wanted to put this on the radar so it might get accomplished at some point - or maybe I could be directed to the place I have somehow managed to miss thus far. :)
Thanks for your consideration.

Thanks for befriending me! I used to be good at predicting No.1 songs, winning newspaper competitions sometimes, but that was nearly fifty years ago and in Britain. I think I' have bet on some of your Billboard questions, but I guess rather than judge what the correct answer might be. As I do with US sport: Minneapolis Red socks and Chattanooga redskins might be playing chess for all I know. But I get them right sometimes.

i wasn't sure about suspending them. it seemed slightly harmless to leave them until they naturally suspended, but since you requested the correct game start time, I figured it was a CatEd error and suspended them.

Thank you for taking the time to be passionate and for your active participation in Hubdub, if we were all cut from the same cloth it would be a boring world indeed. I am not entirely clear what you are trying to say in your comments, but your passion and convictions still shine through what I find to be sometimes a kind of syntax that I struggle to understand.
I hope you realize that many, many Americans are very proud of our country but sometimes that pride is heard to be tingled with arrogance in the ears of people from other societies and cultures. That being said I firmly believe that travel and exposure to other peoples, ideas, and ways of thinking only helps us all.

To all: I repeat very slowly:
"krujis> If I understand You correctly...You're a socialist. If so, there's no way you'd understand or apreciate a free-market, capitalist society."
I contrast to:
"No one was putting him down for being a socialist"
I am proud to be able to not decide whether or not to be republican, democrat, green, liberal, patriot, neutral or whatever but to think it over on every occasion.

Hi,
Does this question need an option for a tie? I don't know if it's different because it's a semi-final match.

I was basing the market on articles in TechCrunch and VentureBeat saying that Mozilla were targeting 5 million downloads. E.g. http://venturebeat.com/2008/06/17/today-is-firefox-download-day-will-it-hit-5-million/
I had no idea what reasonable starting odds so I thought 50% was reasonable.

Yaa, on the whole $4000 on Sex and The City thing...my logic was that Indiana Jones had 67 in less than a week but I did not consider until it started going down the toilet that Sex and the City was seen by 90-some% women who would be much less likely to get excited about making notes of the mistakes. I'll hold onto it for the month and hope for the best.

Finally I have a weekend that I don't have to work, so I thought I'd spend some time shouting to all my HD friends that I have neglected recently.
I see your HD fortune is soaring, and you've abandoned the "evil" cat avatar.
Skipper (the dog, not the HD super-user) is very happy about that, because he worried that the evil cat would jump out of the monitor and attack him.
OTOH, he has never reached a truce with our cat, Justice. Prior to our acquisition of Skipper, we had another cat, Liberty. But she seriously was evil and did things like defecate out of the cat box and chase big dogs out of our yard. We decided she had to go (to an adoptive family) before we got a puppy, so now our family is no longer ruled by Liberty and Justice, but just by Justice and Skipper (the dog, not the HD super-user 8^)

Hey kruijs thanks again for tip/advice in creatin music/billboard questions. I want to ask more of them because I enjoy the subject and it seems you are the only one who asks these questions. Im glad my first one was settled without much dispute. I can and should have been more informative/precise in which charts, which week, etc. as you advised.
Will be doing some researching to come up with another (better) billboard question soon.
Keep yours coming, they are among my favorites each week.

To be honest, I really get tired of the arguments on getsatisfaction. I don't feel that we should need to be involved with hours and/or days and/or sometimes weeks of arguments over a particular question. So, I didn't take it further...but I am sure that the offer is still open, if you would want to pursue it...

You're welcome! Here is what I got back:
Hi John,
We actually discussed this one at length and the consensus was to void it. The problem was the background asks “How many of the passengers will be killed by this illness in total, either on the train, or in hospital?” however is has now been reported that there wasn’t one illness but two unrelated illnesses therefore to settle as one would be misleading. Unfortunately we can’t un-void questions at the moment. However we could escalate it to get satisfaction for discussion to see if there is agreement to the course we took.
On the question of notification unfortunately the category editors don’t yet have the ability to inform users by email that a question has been voided. That is still to be developed.

I posted the following on the "mystery illness train passengers prediction" yesterday and just sent it in to Nigel: Will you please write him as well! (You probably already have written him):
http://www.hubdub.com/m7184/Mystery_Illness__How_many_passangers_will_be_killed
Nigel,
Please have a look at this:
I posted the following comment on this prediction yesterday and emailed it to hubdub. I haven't had an answer as yet:
"The question is:
"How many of the passengers will be killed by this illness in total, either on the train, or in hospital?"
The answer was clearly: ONE. What is the problem here and why was this question voided? There was always a doubt from the beginning of this prediction as to whether there was or was not a "mystery illness" and whether or not the illnesses were related. That was in the news clippings cited as a part of the history of the question. Why was the question voided? It is my opinion that hubdub has made a mistake on this one and should settle the question as ONE PASSENGER died. "
Can you please clear this up for us? (It's time for Solomon to carve up another baby).
Many Thanks,
John

Whats up kruijs-
Thanks for the advice and tips to making better question. I usually stick to sports which is fairly easy to make questions about.
After seeing Scarlett Johansson was releasing music album this month and how famous she is I thought it deserved a hubdub question.
After making question I thought you would be best to ask advice from regarding it. Thanks for replying, and I totally agree with you suggestions.
If my question gets voided, I hope you will make a better, more informed question about it.
OK I must admit I am a bit biased. I love Scarlett Johansson and think she is super sexy, so yeah I want to see her as often as possible in hubdub questions.
Thanks again for the reply/help.

Hey kruijs-
I ventured into your territory by asking a billboard question. I saw that Scarlett Johansson was releasing an album and thought it deserved some kind of hubdub question.
This is my first time asking question like this and I would like your advice. Is question good/odds right?
I honestly dont know.
If for some reason question gets voided maybe you can follow up with a better one on subject.

I was watching CTV newsnet on TV this afternoon. They had a nice report showing all the cars nicely lined up in the impound. It took me some googling but I eventually translated a page that I think was of the Zurich police department. Sometimes I prefer to let the hubdubbers do the research...hehehe.
Ontario Canada recently passed a law that would have seized the cars if it had happened here. I'm not entirely sure but I think they make the owner watch as it crushed.

Wow, looked like you had another great day in the market, while I took a beating! You held out for that over 200, didn't you?! Unbelievable!
Thanks for replying to my comment on the US PRES question and insight kruijs.
I never really knew how the market works here at hubdub.
Ever since I began here I just bet if I saw question I thought I knew the probable outcome of or bet if I was getting great % odds to do so.
Your comment kinda cleared things up a bit for me.
I must also add, I love your questions about the #1 billboard spot. I always find myself wagering on the bottom 3 options because the odds are great. It has yet to pay off, but when it finally does its gonna be awfully nice payout.
Once again, thanks again for the reply and help.
GL Hubdubbin!

Holy cow- you just leaped passed me on the leaderboards. Nice work! Based on mrperfkt's comments I'm guessing you had a brilliant day on the stock market.
Nice call on the DOW today! You must have seen that one coming. Looked like you kept going up, every time I wagered down! I was sure it was closing under 50 points.
We'll see what's in store for tomorrow... :)

Thanks for bringing junkie's reply to my attention...It's quite something that he has achieved a milestone of 50 open questions, and they have been mostly getting better all the time. A noteworthy achievement.
I'm starting to pay a lot of attention to WHO creates new questions. Some people have a flare and a style that definitely is better than others, and I look forward to their questions. I'm not good at sports, sportscars, or rock songs, but I enjoy the rest of your questions very much! And I enjoy reading your comments -- always perceptive and often thought provoking and educational...One of the best parts of hubdub! Thanks for being a friend...

I like your version of the question kruijs! Either way you look at it, it's going to be a deal pool question -- but much more fun than usual...
I'm trying to figure out a way to make a question out of this...

Hey, I really like your talking cat avatar!! What a great photo...
Many Thanks for your challenges...Unfortunately, I'm not good with sports and must decline most sport challenges. Of course the neat part about most of the sports challenges is that you have a 50/50 chance knowing absolutely NOTHING (like me).

I thought the cat was yawning, but I wasn't entirely sure. I thought it might have been a feline conspiracy to attack me, and all my friends with dog avatars (mine are cartoons, and hence more difficult for feline ninjas to attack 8^)
If you’re a Firefox user then you can try Update Scanner. It’s an extension that lets you monitor webpages for changes. You have an option to choose how often the website should be checked for changes, and whether it should ignore the minor ones, such as the changes to numbers.

I've started using this to track the comments. It seems to work fine at default settings.

Man! Hope you could cut and paste all those questions, or else you're a great typer!! I gave it a blind shot..
Thanks for all of the question challenges. Had to decline the soccer questions as I might as well just be picking blindly with those. Keep up the questions though!
Excellent set of soccer questions. I was able to make some bets based on the what I have learned lately. A little birdie told me to look out for the 'usual suspects'.
Wow, that was a lot of challenges! Hope I make some H$ on them, I'm about as cognizant of UEFA football as you claim to be about the NHL playoffs 8^) BTW, is that cat yawning or baring it's fangs in preparation ofr attack?
thanks kruijs, yeah I might be #1, but with $H185, it should not be hard to have a large increase in pct. ;(

Ah! I tried looking up TOMC on the urban dictionary, because beyond the trite "lol", I don't know/use those things. So it's TheOneCalledMichael- got it now!. I am showing my age here...BTW(!), I was just sending you a note via your webpage.. You work is so beautiful!! But I will stick to Shouts now as I feel it less intrusive-ing....
(posted 2 secs ago on my own shout page- geesh, I am not talented in this computer stuff!!!)

Love Joey's "shout"! Mine are Button O'Grey and Blue Moose, both strays who adopted me.... A question, and it doesnt' really matter the answer, but... I just read the flattering comment from Lucid, and he ends it with , "Nice job, man." and I was taken aback! My mental pic is that you are female from your sensitivities and wise crone-like comments.. It has no baring on anything, but I just thought it was funny how my opinion was knocked for a curve!!

Chucklesnort to you for your dry wit response to E about Crudsy! Too funny... I am noticing how many of us truly are characters, in the best sense of the word. And you nail the traits!

Neat question with well-configured choices. I chose 2 different answers! And I have no idea about music, but I shall now follow this contest.

I hope Jerry/Cogno's responds and regains his spirit to play- he is missed.
I kinda think it's funny that no $bets are being made on (and our banter comments don't focus on) that boy's hostility at not being allowed to spew venom in the form of a question...Ah, poor baby! teeheeteehee....

News radio is all that I listen to!
Funny thing is, on each of these "Which song will be #1" questions, I only recognize about one or two names from the lists. I'm so out of touch.
It's all good; I'll do a little google research, listen to the songs on YouTube, then decide from there! Hehe!

kruis you are right.. internet translators are not the best way to put together a sentence! French, German, Spanish!! LOL. Even though I don't know French or German very well I can tell those are not the best translations. And the way it came out in English is almost hilarious. Oh my.

Ik zal proberen, maar ik zal het internet hebben nodig om mij te helpen om te vertalen
That's how my online translator converts from: "I will try, but I will need the internet to help me translate". I don't know how good a translation the internet provided!
