ESPY Awards 2008 - Best Upset

Settled as New York Giants upset New England Patriots

Pop star and actor Justin Timberlake was tapped to host the 2008 ESPY Awards this summer.

The ESPYs are ESPN’s premier awards show, honoring the best moments, teams and players from the year in sports.

“I’m very excited to be hosting the 16th edition of the ESPYs. I can’t wait for the day of the show as I’m truly a sports junkie,” Timberlake said in a statement. “Since the last ESPYs, there have been amazing moments in sports, and I’m looking forward to recapping all of them with ESPN’s diehard fans.”

This year’s ESPY Awards will be held at the Nokia Theater LA Live in Los Angeles and will air live on ESPN July 20.

How could anyone question the Giants win over the Pats . . . the loss to end an undefeated season AND win the Super Bowl!

Um... Division IAA App State shocking #5 Michigan at the Big House was a much bigger upset IMO. That was unbelievable.

The Patriots losing? Not surprised. Winners never cheat, and CHEATERS NEVER WIN... except those Super Bowl trophies they get to keep for some reason...

Fresno State's upset was not just one good day at the office. It was a series of stunning come from behind wins over and over and over and over again. App State's win was great, but not at all in this category since their football team is a perennial power in their division and Michigan wasn't all that great, even with a bowlful of fans. The Super Bowl win by the Giants was awesome but not compared to the many comebacks over and over and over and over and over again by the injured, undermanned, and gritty Bulldogs baseball team.

And lest we forget, Fresno State beat all the major ranked teams it had to face during its playoff run. That included #3 Arizona State at Tempe, highly ranked Long Beach State and U. of San Diego in Southern California, #1 North Carolina, #? Georgia, and everyone else in their way. You can't say that about any of these other one-shot victories that have been nominated this year. They did this with a team previously ranked #41 as the playoffs started. If anyone had to make a Hollywood film about one of these nominated upsets, it would be the Bulldogs' incredible run.

I watched the Fresno state run and it was a great Cinderella story. However the Giants beating an undefeated team in the super bowl, with dramatic finish should win out.
