Settled as Dara wins three medals

http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/BIO/Athlete/9/222009.shtml

3 silver

Background:

Background: OK...this is really amazing...a 41 year old mother of a young child competing in the Olympics...in SWIMMING, one of the most physically challenging of the sports. And she should have a chance to win some medals! AGAIN!

So how many will she win? Doesn't matter for this question whether they're gold, silver, or bronze. Doesn't matter for this question whether it's an individual or relay team medal. Just how many will she take home?

Question will suspend on August 10, the first day of swimming competitions...not sure if any of hers will be completed by then. Jist want to leave it open as the interest builds for the Olympic Games.

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news source.

JUST A SUGGESTION...
With the Olympics coming up, wouldn't it be good to have a category for the Olympics under the Sports heading?

Whatcha think?

Dara Torres' Swim Coach Seriously Ill

Jul 25, 9:33 AM (ET)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -Dara Torres' swim coach is traveling to the National Institutes of Health instead of training camp in Singapore after being diagnosed with a rare, potentially fatal blood disorder.

Michael Lohberg says he's suffering from aplastic anemia. He told The Miami Herald late Thursday that "it's really, really bad," and that doctors have told him he might only have days to live.

The disorder causes bone marrow to stop producing enough new blood cells. Treatment can include blood transfusions or a bone marrow transplant.

The 58-year-old coach planned to take a friend's private plane to the NIH in Maryland early Friday.

Torres and seven other Olympic swimmers from five other countries train under Lohberg in South Florida.

Thanks for the update Destry...saw the article this morning

Also, she may only be competing in 2 or 3 events at the most...even though she qualified for 5, including relays, I think I saw that she wasn't going to compete in all 5...so everyone might take that into consideration when making selections....

I like the question about Dara Torres, because it is such a great story. However, I think the options should have been worded better by leaving the ONLY out, as it is already a huge accomplishment that she is even competing in the Olympics.

@lovethenews - great observation. I removed the words only, seeing how they did nothing but seem to make her accomplishments that much less significant.

I think the 'only' was in there because some people have pointed out that without such questions could be deemed to be not mutually exclusive. If she won 5, she also one 1,2,3, and 4 medals. I strongly doubt bb was in anyway impinging on this woman's great accomplishment, just trying to create an airtight market.

Thanks Jen...that was what I was trying to do...we'd had problems in the past (though I think we're beyond that now) but putting 'only' in my options had become habit...

BTW, in watching her last night, if her teammates had been as good as her, USA would have had gold instead of silver...She's got a really good shot at 3 medals...

Is she anchoring the 400m IM? Since she pulled out of the 100m, I wasn't sure how many more events she had. I agree she was pretty good though. Really would have been nice if our middle two were as strong as the first and last!

OK...now I'm really unsure about what she's entering...maybe not three events afterall...just two...check it out and make your choices according to what you find out!

Looks like it will be just 2 medals at most...she only has one more event to compete in....

"Her remaining event is her best, the 50-meter freestyle coming later this week."
