Will the House issue a contempt citation for Karl Rove's non-appearance?

Settled as No

Full house vote not expected til September. Question asks if it will occur by July 31st. Therefore market is being settled as NO.

Background:

Karl Rove was subpoenaed in May to get him to talk about whether he exerted pressure on prosecutors' decisions regarding Democratic officeholders -- most notably former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman -- or in firing prosecutors whose political loyalty to the Bush administration was being questioned.

The table was set...a placard with his name was in place...all that was missing was the mastermind of the Bush elections.

So what's the next move? Could be a decision on whether he should be cited for contempt. That decision will be made by the full Judiciary Committee and, ultimately, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

What will they do? Anything?

A yes vote indicates that a contempt citation is issued by July 31.

Wow...so far a $H1 wager

Latest news is that there won't be an opportunity for a committee vote until later in July...how does that influence things?

Based on the wording of the question I didn't realize that the cut off was in July I thought it was open until decided.

@all HD'S...every site you see (liberal or consertative) say rove was subpoenaed. NONE of them (that i've seen) have a copy of the subponea for people to read. things that make ya say...hmmmm

Dieseldog> These are my thoughts...certainly not facts. The term subpoena is being used loosley. Simply meaning that Rove was called to testify. There is no document involved. That, I believe, could only be issued by the judiciary, reletive to "courtroom" functions. So....I don't think you'll ever see a ciation, per se. Assuming that citation means a document.

@erik...i agree there prolly ain't no document to read. both rep's and dem's use it for polictical points. i can't say for sure, but i think congress has the power-authority to issue subponea's. they even have a jail on capitol hill. its been a long time since they used it. have a nice day.

WASHINGTON - The House Judiciary Committee has voted to hold former White House strategist Karl Rove in contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena to testify...The committee decision is only a recommendation, and it was unclear whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi would allow a final vote.

Certainly won't happen by tomorrow.........

i agree with eric. the 99% rule would aplly to this question and a few others. waiting a day or 2 won't hurt, but if an admin is bored they could settle this and the stimulas package question. have a nice day.

This question is asking if the House will issue the contempt citation, not just the House Judiciary Committee. I would say we hold off until we get word from the House.

@destry..the key here is by the 31st. i have no problem waiting. imho its 99.99999% that the house won't act on this on the 31st. why you up so late? old guys like you should be in bed by now :O)

Thanks I typically get my 4 hours of sleep between 3:30 and 7:30. Have to squeeze my days full. Since there is a short time span left I think waiting an extra day is fine.
