Welcome to hubdub! Thank you for your question, I encourage you to keep them coming, you'll find that several of our most prolific members are also Canadians. Your question is compelling and I've wondered the same thing myself, as an American who attended University in Canada I've been frequently amazed over the years about how little Americans know about our largest trading partner. We share the longest friendly border in the world but often times our appreciation of our northern neighbors is sorely lacking. Great question!
It will be very interesting if Obama gets elected and he attempts to blow up NAFTA. I'm neutral as it stands, however, I fear it could get dirty. Harper will maintain that we are the number one supplier of oil to the States, and many other countries would be willing to take that if they can't come to an agreement.
But hey, maybe a reevaluation of NAFTA is necessary...only time will tell
