Will Hubdub allow a question's creater access to suspend a question from bidding by 9/15/08?

Settled as No

This has not happened.

Background:

I write questions on stories that I am following and it usually takes some time from when I hear the result to when the question is suspended/settled allowing savvy users a chance to bid on easy money. Allowing the creaters to temporarily suspend questions that are determined earlier than the suspend date would help staff stay on top of things. Thoughts/Comments?

Settlement details: As determined by Hubdub administrators.

they got super user's helping with that now. your idea sounds good. the person making the question might follow it more closely than others. you can always request a settlement and tell them the time the link you sent was posted. all bets made after that are pose to be voided.

Yeah most of the time when a settlement request is sent or a flag to a market the supers will catch that and suspend if necessary. Plus with the ability to backvoid markets, users who buy a position after news breaks will have those wagers voided. I think the addition of category editors and super users to the site is going to prevent this from happening, giving the users control to suspend a market isn't something that is easy to do, and the list of projects team hubdub is working on is significant.

I totally agree with your frustration -- that's actually the whole reason I was excited to be a superuser -- so I could suspend markets and keep people from making money on them after the fact... but we still have to know to suspend them! We don't always notice settlement requests (we don't get an email like the admins do), but most of us monitor the comments pretty closely. So if you want a super to get something suspended, you can 1) comment 2) shout at us 3) email us (destry and I both have email address posted on our profiles) 4) just wait.. we'll get around to it eventually. Cheers!

Your comment: "that's actually the whole reason I was excited to be a superuser -- so I could suspend markets and keep people from making money on them after the fact." is a breath of fresh air. It's been driving me up the wall for months watching people chase down and greatly profit from known outcomes on unsettled questions. Addressing that problem is a major contribution. Thanks!
