My Predictions

Will any US contractors be punished for the electrocution of American soldiers in Iraq ?

Current forecast: 41% chance
Combining all predictions, the current forecast is that this is 41% likely to happen (unchanged in last 1 day)

Note - this question refers to the American soldiers who have been electrocuted due to shoddy electrical work, not whether the punishment of the contractors will be death by electrocution.

Punishment must be some tangible form of punishment, eg a fine or arrest or police charge, not simply a reprimand or public backlash.

The Pentagon has reported that 13 Americans have been electrocuted in Iraq !

Do I understand this correctly, that for a YES settlement, a US contractor must be punished by electrocution?

no....it means the contractors must be punished....perhaps wording was a little off..deaths of american soldiers by electrocution in Iraq

do not think they will get any punishment except monetary unfortunately...but maybe these families of these unfortunate servicement will really push for more severe penalties than monetary... but these contractors have way too much clout

@newsrangler
to me a reprimand for this question does not qualify as a punishment....it would have to be a substantial fine and/or some sort of criminal and/or civil charges...I am sure after an investigation the surviving families plan to sue these contractors but I am curious to see what, if anything, will be done by the government/and or military

Great question coolkraft! It makes my blood boil every time I read about these electrocutions. It is pure negligence. These companies ought to be fined very, very heavily. Maybe the first one could be chalked up to stupidity on the part of the contractors but the several that followed certainly rise to the level of CRIMINAL negligence and involuntary manslaughter and the inspectors or those who should have appointed them belong in jail.

@ all the question implies that that the us will electrocute the contractors if not who do it mean? the thirteen electrocuted was by there own bad workmanship question should be voided or rephrased
posted 12 weeks ago
@curios - yeah, the placement of electrocution at the end threw me off too. Moving electrocution to the middle of the sentence changes the meaning: "Will any US contractors be punished for the electrocution deaths of American soldiers in Iraq?"

I followed my initial NO wager with a YES wager after clarification from coolkraft (comment #3 above)

I've invested HD$ on opposite sides of two different questions today... I should have stayed in bed today ;-D

@ fingers of fury (and other users) -- if a user makes a prediction based on the wording of the question, and the wording of the question is changed (or the settlement source is changed), that user may send a flag to the Category Editor requesting an individual void of their prediction(s). This would, I believe, include any 'hedge bets' made to try to 'protect' your position.

NOTE to users: This does not mean that you can request individual voids of predictions you made (on questions that haven't changed), and then later changed your minds ;-) No one on HD wants a user to be penalized (by H$ or electrocution ;-) for a prediction they made based on a good-faith read of a question.
