Will Mississippi's Gov. Haley Barbour Revoke His Suspended Sentence of Murderer Michael D. Graham?

Settled as Gov. Barbour does NOT revoke suspended sentence

No revoking has yet been reported

Background:

There is an uproar in Mississippi over the release of convicted murderer Michael David Graham by Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour. Barbour, Chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1993 to 1997, who many believe has ambitions to be president and purports to be a supporter of law-and-order, recently released a state prisoner who served four years in the governor’s mansion as a trustee. This has local citizens and the victim’s family shocked and looking for answers. Given the outcry of local media, citizens, and the victim’s family, will Governor Barbour revoke Graham’s “suspended sentence” and put him back in prison by the end of August 2008?

OK...a favor to ask..finally got my wife to post a question...so make her feel good, put some money on it.

Actually, it's a pretty interesting market...Barbour is one of the leaders of the Republican party, and with their stance on law and order, it's quite unusual for someone like him to suspend the sentence of a murderer...quite a major crime when it happened, and Graham really hasn't done anything to redeem himself other than work in the Governor's Mansion as a trustee the last few years...I can't figure out why Barbour suspended his sentence in the first place...being the political animal that he is, how will he react to the furor raised by his actions?

Apparently Barbour does have the right to change his mind, and there's been a lot of political pressure on him to do so. But he's pretty stubborn, kinda like W, and is not likely to back off even a bad decision. But, there is the possibility that he would, particularly if it looks like it might hurt the chances for the re-election of his appointed US Senator, Roger Wicker, who's in a pretty tight fight against the former Democratic Governor, Ronnie Musgrove. A bad taste from Barbour might hurt Wicker.

Also, there's always the chance that Graham might mess up (as so many ex-cons do) and get himself sent back to prison by then.

The time period was set for just a month because that's about as long as this story will probably run in the minds of Mississippi voters, pretty much like all American voters...we all need that pill for memory loss when it comes to politics...

Thanks for the welcome, everyone!

Yes, valornhonor, it was for Hotel Sales. It was the first AOL screen name and email address I had back in 1996. Only 8 letters were allowed, so a vowel or two had to go. :-)

I personally like short time periods for the bets I make, so I wanted this one to be short, as well. An option open to Barbour is to give Graham a full pardon. If he does that, it can't be revoked. I'm guessing, he probably won't do that because the state newspapers and television stations have made this a daily story, already.
