What type of plane will have the fastest official speed in the unlimited class 2008 Reno Air Races?

Settled as P-51D, Mustang ( or TF-51 etc)

P-51 Airplanes Dominate In Reno

P-51s were 1-2 in the Breitling Gold Unlimited final a the National Championship Air Races at Reno Stead Airport on Sunday. Bill Destefani's Strega was more than nine seconds ahead of Dan Martin's Dago Red to claim the top prize at Reno.

Background:

The Unlimited Class is open to any piston-driven aircraft with an empty weight greater than 4500 pounds [the weight restriction was added in 2005]. Aside from a very few "scratch-built" aircraft, the Unlimited Class has generally been populated by stock or modified WWII fighters, the most-often-flown types including the P-51 Mustang, F-8F Bearcat, and Hawker Sea Fury. Aircraft speeds in the Unlimited Class reach 500 mph.

See more at http://www.airrace.org/classUnlim.php

This year it will be held September 10-14, 2008.

For simplicity, airplane types will be grouped by their common names, so for example a "F8F-1 Bearcat" and a "F8F Bearcat" will be regarded as being the same because of the "Bearcat" name, and a "P51-D Mustang" will be grouped with the "TF51-D Mustang" for the same reason.
