Will the voluntary deportation program in the US be .000025% successful by Aug 22?

Settled as No

http://my.att.net/s/editorial.dll?pnum=1&bfromind=7406&eeid=6051904&_sitecat=1522&dcatid=0&eetype=article&render=y&ac=0&ck=&ch=ne&rg=blsadstrgt&_lid=332&_lnm=tg+ne+topnews&ck=

Background:

Recently a program was launched soliciting illegal, but otherwise non-criminal persons to voluntarily offer themselves for deportation, without the routine discomforts that these folks might otherwise be subject to.

It is estimated that within the five targeted cities that there are at least 450,000 eligible persons for this program. For the first week of the program there were just six volunteers. This market will settle for yes, if it is announced at the end of this program that this number has doubled to 12 or more, thus hitting a ratio of .000025% of eligible persons.

"May I have your attention please, would the 12 million illegal aliens please step forward?"
"No?.... Will 450,000 please step forward?"
"We are offering a streamlined, hassle free deportation, please step forward."
"Thank you to the SIX of you that stepped forward."

Good grief.

Hey, it is a start.
If we can just add 6 more volunteers for another 2 million times, it will equal the estimated 12 million illegal aliens.

There has to be 6 more who need a free ride back to Mexico for a wedding or something. :-)

I wonder how many of the visitors to the Olympics in Bejing "escaped" into China illegally?

strong emotions on both sides of this issue. lets be mindful not to go overboard. i have mixed feelings on this. as you might be able to tell i lean right in my political views. having dealt with this issue as far as labour/workers go, the mexicans i dealt with are willing to work. go into a bar and listen to the white guys sitting there sobbing in their beer about not having a job. get off the barstool and go take a job a illegal has and hush up. are they breaking the law if here illeagally....yes they are. i agree thats wrong. their trying to support their famlies so i give them credit for that. have anice day.

While I agree it is necessary to have a guest worker program, and I hope that Mexican nationals have a priority in any such program, we cannot escape the fact that every illegal immigrant that is here has already broke the law, and a series of wrongs do not make a right. To overlook this is to give a slap in the face of all law-abiding immigrants who waited in line to get into the country.

Also, it is important to notice that this is a problem in many countries - for example, England, France, Spain, Israel, and Mexico all have people in their countries illegally & it has never brought run-away prosperity nor record lows in crime rates.

I believe we need a guest worker program. But we don't need a guest family program. Especially when anchor babies bring instant citizenship. It devalues the hard work of immigrants who are trying to become legal Americans.
