Will McCain's or Obama's convention speech receive higher TV ratings?

Settled as McCain's speech

McCain 5.2
Obama 5.0

Background:

The Democratic Convention will be held August 25-28. The Republican Convention will be held September 1-4. McCain and Obama speak on the last night of their party's convention.

All networks and cable outlets will cover these events, BUT THIS MARKET WILL SETTLE ON THE BASIS OF NBC'S RATINGS FROM 10PM-11PM ON BOTH THURSDAYS (AUG 28 & SEP 4). It would be too confusing to consider the ratings from every network, so I simply picked NBC because NBC Nightly News is rated higher than ABC World News Tonight or CBS Evening News.

The networks do not plan to cover every minute of the conventions. They each plan daily coverage from 10pm-11pm. More information on programming can be found here: http://www.tvweek.com/news/2008/08/convention_coverage_runs_the_g_1.php

Settlement details: As reported by http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/ or a major mainstream news source.

Ohhh! Great question. Although since Obama will almost certainly demolish McCain, maybe we can have another one that says by how much?

@ontheright - what's your source? I didn't think the overnights were in yet?

Here's a source.. the first wave does suggest that McCain had more viewers. Looks like a lot of people may have lost h$ on this one... The more accurate numbers should be in later tonight or tomorrow.

Not surprising however -- as was mentioned in the comments for this 'related' question, <http://www.hubdub.com/m15280/RNC_Will_Sarah_Palins_speech_draw_more_TV_viewers_than_John_McCains>, NBC carried the NFL Season opener (NY Giants against the Washington Redskins) last night, and that coverage spilled over into the NBC 10:00 - 11:00PM time period -- which is specifically what settles this question.

I predicted McCain would beat out the Palin in the other question, but this question suspended back in August, otherwise a bet on "McCain" would have likely been a sure winner.

Nielsen can flesh out which candidate had the most viewers -- which would be interesting to know (but that data wouldn't settle this market).

NBC's football coverage only spilled over into their 10pm convention coverage by 2-4 minutes. According to overnight raings, Obama's speech got a 4.1 on NBC, while McCain got a 5.2. I think we have enough info to settle this question. Thoughts?
