Background:

Another week and nothing changes... But the DNC is only a week away and conventional wisdom says Obama is declaring his VP within the week... which could be followed immediately by McCain. Or not.

Note: Gallup polls are the result of a 3 day rolling average so the poll released on Monday will be based on surveys taken Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

WASHINGTON - In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

Unless Obama makes a very unpopular VP choice, or McCain makes a very popular choice immediately after Obama's, there's no way that Obama won't be up by a comfortable margin on Monday. Between the start of the DemCon and VP coverage, he'll be getting oodles of good/free press.
