Fall TV Preview: How will NBC's Knight Rider do this season?

Settled as Cancelled after Jan 1st

The only question here was *when* it would be canceled, not if!

Background:

Background: Premieres: Wednesday, Sept. 24, 8 pm/ET

What it's about: After the success of a new TV movie that aired in February, NBC is remaking the classic '80s action series about a former military man (Breuning) and his team of experts (including Russo, Poitier, and Davison) who work with an artificial-intelligence-enabled car (voiced by Val Kilmer). The producers have hinted that David Hasselhoff, the star of the original series, may cameo.

The buzz: I have fond memories of the first, but I don't think I want to be reminded of how awful it was. The TV movie did ok ratings wise, but I'm not convinced people will stick around for a full length series.

Current timeslot competition:
ABC: Pushing Dasies
CBS: Old Christine/Gary Unmarries (New)
CW: America's Top Model
FOX: Bones

Settlement details:As reported by TVGUIDE.com

A note about the options: Shows that are great tend to be renwed earlier in the year, typically before the Christmas break. Shows that are really bad are canceled after only a couple of showings. Shows that are somewhat inbetween are usually announced around the time of the upfronts in May. So your options basically break down into:
Cancelled before Jan 1st - Really bad show
Cancelled after Jan 1st - Show not great
Renewed before Jan 1st - Really great show
Renewed after Jan 1st - Ok show
Other - catchall for not announced by end of network Upfront in spring, show is pulled from schedule for future season, etc.

This is for season renewal, an ordering of more episodes for season 1 will not settle the market.

The suspend date may slide forward once network upfront dates are announced.

Ugh, I can't believe it -- they've ordered a full season! I think this is more of a criticism of the dismal other NBC offerings this season than anything very positive about Knight Rider itself.
