NFL Week 1 - Which defense is better for yards given up per game week 1.

Settled as Baltimore Ravens

Baltimore was 147 yards better

http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=2&defensiveStatisticCategory=GAME_STATS&conference=ALL&role=OPP&season=2008&seasonType=REG&d-447263-s=TOTAL_YARDS_GAME_AVG&d-447263-o=1&d-447263-n=1

Background:

This is another market that I am putting out there to gauge user interest. I am going to try out a little more complicated market for week 1, and if it is too complicated then we can find way to make more straight forward.
For week 1, we are going to see which of these defense cans outperform its average for last season.
For Example Pittsburgh gave up an average of 266 yards per game in 2007. So we are going to take this years week 1 stats for yards given up per game and compare to last seasons average numbers. So If Pittsburgh gave up 250 that would be an improvement of 16 yards or +16. If Tampa who gave up 278 yards per season were to give up 290 yards week one, that would be 12 points worse than last season average or -12.
Top 10 Defenses from Last Year Regular season and number of yards they averaged.
1) Pittsburgh Steelers 266 yds
2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers 278
3) Indianapolis Colts 279
4) New England Patriots 288
5) Tennessee Titans 291
6) Baltimore Ravens 301
7) Dallas Cowboys 307
8) Philadelphia Eagles 311
9) Green Bay Packers 313
10) Jacksonville Jaguars 314
*New York Gians and Washington Redskins were not included since they play week 1 game on Thursday.
In the event of tie team who gave up lowest points will be used for tiebreaker

In other words, this is asking which team's defense is most improved over last season? Seems like a good question to me.

If for some reason this one doesn't work out, perhaps simply asking "Which defense will give up the fewest yards" without comparing it to a previous season might get more activity.

curios is right: current values on the options of this question are

Pittsburgh Steelers 9%
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9%
Indianapolis Colts 9%
New England Patriots 14%
Tennessee Titans 9%
Baltimore Ravens 9%
Dallas Cowboys 10%
Philadelphia Eagles 10%
Green Bay Packers 9%
Jacksonville Jaguars 11%

where the percentages add up to exactly 99%

What a weird thing that the percentages only add up to 99. When I created market i started all at 10, so they added to 100. I think our system might round the percentages up and down so not to display fractional percentages.
And you should wager on these markets, I learned about your Aussie Rules Football. Just kidding... hope everything is going well, keep in touch.

@pixelpaws I think that suggestion is very good. I hope as we start getting a feel for the teams this season we can have those markets. I know sometimes it is fun to have markets that are a little more complicated, and also makes predicting on them more of a challenge. But if this market doesn't get good feedback, I have no problem changing it.

You're right Destry....as wagers are made the percentages on each shift slightly, so there may be cases where the total may add up to 99 or 101.

Hate to say it, being a Bears fan, but the smart money is on Indy. Bears will be lucky to get 50 yards all game.

Tampa Bay 278 average/gave up 438 = 160 yards worse
Indianapolis 279 average/gave up 319 = 40 yards worse
New England 288 average/gave up 284 = 4 yards better
Tennessee 291 average/gave up 189 = 102 yards better
Baltimore 301 average/gave up 154 = 147 yards better
Dallas 307 average/gave up 205 = 102 yards better
Philadelphia 311 average/gave up 166 = 145 yards better
Green Bay 313 average/To Be Determined
