Will CNN or MSNBC report on the American flags being thrown away with the trash at the DNC?

Settled as Yes

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/09/06/mccain-camp-uses-discarded-obama-flags/

Background:

John McCain’s presidential campaign prepared to chastise Democrats Saturday over leaving behind piles of miniature American flags after Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday in Denver.
Boy Scouts have arrived with 84 trash bags full of bundles of flags at the site of a McCain rally scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. local time in Colorado Springs.
The campaign says the flags were recovered from Invesco Field after the Democrats concluded their convention there, and they are going to be used as part of the warm-up ceremonies before McCain takes the stage for the rally.
FOX News has been told a vendor at Invesco Field found the flags, which were going to be thrown out, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.
Veterans in Colorado Springs are expected to distribute the flags to the audience at the rally.

US Flag Code. TITLE 4 > CHAPTER 1 > Sec. 8(k). It states:
"The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning"

As far as starting odds: I don't know of any scientific way to calculate odds on this market...If someone out there does, please advise. My thinking is this: I saw this "flash" on Fox News, after doing the Google news search, I found nothing besides the Fox story. So.....I figure 30% is generous.

Great question Erik... I saw this first on a blog ( http://patriotroom.com/?p=1471 ), but so far I don't think any of the mainstream media have reported it.

This from the people who complain that "someone is questioning their patriotism!"

I think the background of this question is biased (i.e. what is the relevance of US Flag Code to the question). It also omits the response of the DNC. Apperantly who reported the story was caught fabricating before:

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/214283.php

According to a article just out from Huffington Post, the story about flags from the Democratic National Convention being thrown away is simply false. The story was jumped on and apparently authored by the McCain campaign. But the real tell is down in the Huffpo piece where it traces the story to none other than Fox News' Carl Cameron.

Longtime readers of TPM will remember that back in October 2004 this site caught Cameron publishing a series of fabricated quotes attributed to John Kerry on the front page of the Fox News website.

After I placed a series of calls to Fox News inquiring about the story, the story was eventually pulled, and Fox was forced to issue an apology and retract the fabricated story. Fox spokesman Paul Schur told TPM: "Carl [Cameron] made a stupid mistake which he regrets. And he has been reprimanded for his lapse in judgment. It was a poor attempt at humor."

Thank you, pembeci. Sounds like you put some work in. Peace

The suspect flags photo that accompanies the CNN story sure don't look like 'trashed flags' !

(maybe it's time for another question, "Will the "DNC American Flag 'story' turn out to be not true?")

In response to the accusations, DNC spokeswoman Karren Finney released the following statement:

"American flags were proudly waved by the 75,000 people who joined Barack Obama at the Democratic Convention. John McCain should applaud that, but instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism. On the same day he agrees to join Barack Obama at Ground Zero on September 11, John McCain attacks the patriotism of Obama supporters who so proudly waved the American flag at our historic event in Denver just days ago."

i don't think the question was biased. the creator choose his background and went with it. if the question maker has to provide both sides then they'll be dozens of paragraphs to read before getting to the question. imho that wasn't needed on this question. requardless of the background looks like i lost money :(

pembeci> There was no bias in my background. As I stated in the first comment, “I saw this "flash" on Fox News, after doing the Google news search, I found nothing besides the Fox story.” If I had found another view on the subject I would have ran it, or possibly not have even created the market.
The relevance of US Flag Code to the question is to show the accepted way of disposing of a flag of the United States of America.

Eric, we can agree to disagree on the relevance of US Flag Code I guess.

"If I had found another view on the subject I would have ran it, or possibly not have even created the market" --> Thanks, I think this kind of sensitivity is required not to spill the election fever here into Hubdub.

The troubling thing for me is not your question to be honest. I think it is a legit market even it may disturb some Democrat hubdubers. What makes me disappointed is McCain campaign's using this kind of attack. First, I put the blame on Fox but McCain campaign provoked this so I guess it was fair for Fox to cover it. This is just a ploy to get comments like we have above while at the same time claiming "The McCain campaign has denied questioning Obama’s patriotism". Too much hypocrisy for me.
