Background: More than 400,000 pumpkins have gone on show at the world's biggest event dedicated to the squash.

Growers at the fair in Ludwigsburg, Germany, have sculpted their prize pumpkins into spectacular displays.

At the end of the show in October the producers of the heaviest pumpkin will compete in a Europe-wide weigh-in competition.

The European Biggest Pumpkin Championship weighing will take place on October 12th. Last years winning weight was 583kg, from Jos Ghaye, Belgium: A new European record.

The first place winner will receive prize money of 1500 EUR. If this year's winning weight exceeds 600 kg, an extra 1000 EUR prize will be awarded.
