Background:

The Green Party of Canada, has gradually been gaining support over the last several years. Polls now suggest 9% nation wide and up to 12% in the west. They were deemed ineligible to attend the previous election's debate because they did not have a Member of Parliament.

Although The federal Green Party now has an MP, nationwide support, and polling results higher than the 5% requirement, the leader Elizabeth May has been deemed unwelcome. On the other hand Gilles Duceppe and the bloc Quebecois party whose agenda includes only the province of Quebec is.

May said in a statement that she is considering pursuing legal action against the TV networks and has retained Toronto lawyer Peter Rosenthal to spearhead the fight.

The debates are scheduled for Oct.1 and 2.

What the heck? That picture doesnt match this question at all! Who is that and why is she gagged?

That's Elizabeth May, the leader of the Canadian Green Party. She's gagged to make the point that the Canadian networks are censoring her. Picture is perfect.

Ah. I take that back then. Is she at some sort of public protest shes doing?

Great question Mork ...beat me to it!!!!!

She is gagged because the main parties in Canada have banded together to exclude the Green Party from the televised Leader's Debate even though the Greens have a sitting member in the House of Commons. The Prime Minister claims that the Greens are basically Liberals in disguise and that if the Greens are allowed in the Debate, then he will not attend.

CBC reports at

"Green leader allowed into debates, networks confirm"
that Elizabeth May will now be included in the debate.

Looks like she didn't have to sue. I'm not sure if the question should be "voided" or settled as "No".
