Will the U.S. government bail out any other banks by 2009?

Suspended

Flagged by super user: Just announced - Gov will provide low or no interest loan to AIG. Nothing in print yetm I will try to follow up and provide link when something is available.

Background:

Having bailed out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the Feds had said that no other banks would see similar treatment. This was backed up with its decision to let Lehman Brothers fail. However, recently AIG has been bought for 80+ billion dollars.

Will any other banks see acquisition by the government?

Settlement requested Fri 26th Sep 4:11am PDT by jenniandboys[Admin]: WaMu was seized by the Gov't who then brokered a deal to JP Morgan. I don't *think* that settles this question, but I'm not 100% sure.

I agree with jenni, but we need to start defining what a "bail out" is in these questions: six months ago the WAMU decision might have been considered a bailout, but in light of recent developments, not even the media would call the WAMU move a "bail out"

Don't believe that the WaMu case qualifies as a 'bail-out'. According to a Bloomberg story, WaMu was SEIZED and then sold. This is not a bail-out.
