Will there be another offer on the table for HBOS by October 31, 2008?
There has not been another offer 'on the table' by 10/31, although there may have been discussions prior to this date, no offers were made.
Background:>
However, with around 17,000 people working for HBOS in Scotland, Alex Salmond, Scotland's First Minister has been holding crisis talks in Edinburgh to try to salvage as many jobs as possible north of the border.
HBOS was formed in 2001 after a merger between the Bank of Scotland and the Halifax Building Society. The Bank of Scotland is the UK's oldest commercial bank, founded in 1665, and even prints its own version of pounds sterling. So it's no surprise Scotland isn't giving in without a fight.
It has in fact been rumoured that an elite group of Scottish bankers has been asked to make a £6bn offer to save the bank.
The Scots are notoriously proud of their banking institutions. And Alex Salmond is certainly a force to be reckoned with. But currently, it is only rumours.
Will this "elite group", or someone else, come forward and put up an offer to bail out the bank by the end of October 2008?
Question will settle on November 1, 2008.

Settlement details:
As reported by a major mainstream news source. It only has to be announced in the media, not accepted. This question will settle after the end of October, but is suspended 1 week beforehand. It doesn't have to be the "elite group of bankers" mentioned in the background, simply an alternative offer. And it doesn't have to be for the whole bank, it could just be part of it.

This same weekend of negotiations has led to a change of offer from Lloyds taking over HBOS, but I think the bank acquiring stakes in the banks still satisfies a 'yes' settlement?

The Bank of Scotland "the one that funded the jacobite rebellion" could have been a step closer to banking the Scottish Pound that would have been worth £1.20 compared to the Bank of England's £1.00. It could have enjoyed for the same foreign funds that the Swiss franc attracts. I'm down enough real money on bloody HBOS shares, so I'm not risking Hubdub dollars on this as well
