Background:>
His second term is up in 2009, and he seems pretty determined to get the law changed to allow him to run for another four year term.
He has broad support among City Council members, business leaders and newspaper editorial boards, with The New York Times having already published an editorial calling for term limits to be abolished. The New York Post and The Daily News have also endorsed Mr. Bloomberg’s bid for a third term.
However, his closest advisors are against it. They have told the mayor that changing the law could sully his legacy as a reform-minded outsider. Other aides have told the mayor that they may not remain for a full third term.
So, will the law be passed before the end of the year?
Settlement details:
As reported by a major mainstream news source, based on official announcements from the Mayor's office and/or New York City Council.
This will settle as Yes if a new law is passed or a current law is amended to allow Mayor Bloomberg to seek a third term in office.
