My Predictions

Will someone else release a service to prevent "drunk emailing" before the end of the year?

Current forecast: 18% chance 1%
Combining all predictions, the current forecast is that this is 18% likely to happen (down 1% in last 1 day)

Here's the scenario: It's Friday night, and what began as an innocent happy-hour margarita morphed into a few pitchers. After all, those tacos were salty.

Bidding friends adieu, you jump in a cab, head home and decide a quick e-mail check is in order. And there it is: a message from your ex. Or your boss. Or that friend you're secretly mad at.

If you're the kind of person who types tipsy and regrets it in the morning, Google's "Mail Goggles," a new test-phase feature in the free Gmail service, might save you some angst.
The Goggles can kick in late at night on weekends. The feature requires you to solve a few easy math problems in short order before hitting "send." If your logical thinking skills are intact, Google is betting you're sober enough to work out the repercussions of sending that screed you just drafted.

Gmail 'Mail Goggles' stymie drunk e-mailing

To settle as yes - there will have to be an announcement of another company (other than google) releasing a similar software. This does not have to refer to "drunk emailing," but rather is used to screen for emails that you might later regret.

Settlement details: As reported by a major mainstream news source.

Yay! Thanks for creating this question - I just read about this too and wanted to write one :-D

If only Google could also create some 'PMS' goggles, and 'you're tired and just trying to pick a fight with your boyfriend' goggles, I think all conflict in my life would be halved!!

When i first heard about this i thought "how the hell does it work" but googles approach is actually a good one. Until the drunk person in question figures out that something stopped by google can be solved by google.

Seems like the only drawback is that once google goggles stops you from sending that email, then it's just that much more tempting to pick up the phone!

No kidding! Lets google an answer to this problem!

Yet another step to a breathalyzer for your cell.

Wow, never mind. They already have those.

Really? Do they kick in at like 12 o clock at night or something? Id hate to have to pass a test every time i want to make a phone call.

It's my understanding that you can set up a list of people that you have to take a breath test before calling (i.e. ex-girlfriends) and you can use it to see if you're too drunk to drive. Sounds more useful than a camera phone to me.

No kidding! However say you needed to call them for a ride or something. Say there the only ones in town and you need to call them for a ride. What then? Also they need that for landlines to.

what if you are just rotten at math? also, I bet if you were determined enough you could get past this, either by turning it off or some other trick
