What will the sale of the Secret London wartime tunnel complex bring?

Settled as No tender accepted by the end of this year

No reports that a sale has yet gone thorugh

Background:

A once-secret 1940s tunnel complex under the center of London that housed military intelligence and linked the cold war hot line phone between Washington and Moscow has been put up for sale.

The Kingsway Tunnels were built in 1940 as deep air-raid shelters and have since been used as a war command headquarters, a library and the telephone exchange that connected the presidents of the US and the USSR in the Cold War.

The Post Office took over the tunnels after the Second World War, and now its successor, BT, has put them up for sale. With 77,000 sq ft (7,153 sq m) of space under the center of the capital available, offers of £5 million (currently US$ 8.66 Million) are expected.

Sales agent Farebrother said there had already been a lot of interest in the now disused property. Farebrother partner Niall Gallagher said there had been an "eclectic" mix of enquiries. "Private individuals, companies, corporations, government departments -- we've got the whole spectrum at the moment," he added.

Selling a sight of extreme history significance? Whats next, selling off the genuine constitution?

Ber very careful because there are two tunnels up for sale. The BT one mile long network of tunnels below Chancery Lane and the old tram tunnel below Kingsway which you can see the entrance to near Russell Square. The second tunnel is getting much publicity as Simon Woodruffe is thinking of putting in a Japanese type hotel. But this is not the tunnel referred to in this question.

The BT tunnel has no direct access from the surface and is much further underground.
