What will happen to Sarah Palin's campaign wardrobe after the election?

Settled as Outcome not made public by November 30

Background: Campaign finance reports recently released by the Republican National Committee confirmed that approximately $150,000 was spent on "campaign accessories" for VP candidate Sarah Palin.

"Advisers to Ms. Palin said on Wednesday that the purchases — which totaled about $150,000 and were classified as “campaign accessories” — were made on the fly after Ms. Palin, the governor of Alaska, was chosen as the Republican vice-presidential candidate on Aug. 29 and needed new clothes to match climates across the 50 states. They emphasized, too, that Ms. Palin did not spend time on the shopping, and that other people made the decision to buy such an array of clothes."

Republican officials said all the clothes would be given to charity after the campaign is over. If Ms. Palin kept the clothes, the $150,000 would have to be declared as income.

Settlement will be made based on all events concerning Palin's wardrobe up to November 30. For example, if the RNC donates the clothing to a non-profit group, and the non-profit group auctions any articles of clothing before Nov 30, this market would settle as "Some combination of the above choices". If the RNC donates the clothes, and the receiving organization auctions the clothes AFTER Nov 30, this would settle as "Clothes donated to non-profit organization".

A private auction includes any invitation-only fund raising event.

Settlement details:As reported by a major mainstream news source.

I find it hard to believe that "Ms. Palin did not spend time on the shopping, and that other people made the decision to buy such an array of clothes." She didn't try them on? Of course, she did. Perhaps her followers went to the stores and brought her the clothes to choose from, but she DID spend time and she is fully complicit in the purchase of $150,000 worth of "accessories."

palin denies it...mccain ain't real clear on how much or who's money was used. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics filed a complaint againest palin and others over the deal. if one of you liberals wanna make a "will palin be found guilty? the info is on the link below.

Sarah Palin insisted in an interview on Thursday that she did not accept $150,000 worth of designer clothes from the Republican Party and said the media spotlight on the story is evidence of bias against women candidates.

McCain was asked several questions on Thursday about the shopping spree -- and he answered each one more or less the same way: Palin needed clothes and they'll be donated to charity.

Palin's big mistake was not palling around with known domestic terrorists.

How dare she wear new clothes during the campaign.

$150,000 worth of new clothes in a matter of a couple of days? Clearly she is not one of us.

If you feel that way, probably better go with the guy that pals around with terrorist then.

Sarah did not spend this money, and there is some question if this story is even true.

However, we know Michelle Obama said that the $600 stimulous check would buy her a pair of earrings, that Barack spent $150,000 on that fake greek temple stage he used for his coronation, that Barack tried to get earmarks for the company where Michelle worked and suddenly Michelle received a $200,000 pay raise... talk about "relating to the common people" comes up short!

The story is true. Financial reports were filed by the RNC.

And this hockey mom who needs a $150,000 wardrobe for a losing campaign somehow has something to do with Joe Six Pack?

Diesel. Since you throw the word "liberal" around so much, I'd like you to explain what it means to you so I can get some grasp of the way in which you're seeking to insult those who disagree with you.

Re: Republican talking points, EM. Republicans are very proud of the fact that they don't have to actually think through the complex results of proposed policies. They have fat-ass, drug-addict Rush Limbaugh, senile John McCain and the doddering ghost of Ronald Reagan to tell them what to say, think and do. Limbaugh's fans call themselves dittoheads, which is revealing.

Beyond that point, I think you'll find that there's pretty little between the ears of your average Republican voter. The reason they talk about the "liberal elite" is not because Democrats are in fact, ivory-tower academics, but because so few Republicans actually read or correctly apply the use of the verb "to be" (count the "aints" in diesel's posts, for example.

The real tragedy though, is that these folks are so hateful and ignorant that they vote for a party that has never done anything to help them become better educated. So what we have is this small army of white trash, the members of which have been tricked into believing, not only that "pro-wrestling" is a real sport, but that mythology like "trickle-down" economics actually works.

It's very sad.

@NN... from your first link, Michelle Obama clearly did NOT say what you said:

"You're getting $600 - what can you do with that? Not to be ungrateful or anything, but maybe it pays down a bill, but it doesn't pay down every bill every month," she said. "The short-term quick fix kinda stuff sounds good, and it may even feel good that first month when you get that check, and then you go out and you buy a pair of earrings."

@NN...I do not see a cost mentioned in your second linked article except that the article talks about all the benefits Denver will receive, but from your reference, it appears that is the cost to rent the stadium, not for the stage sets.

If you want to play apples and apples, NN, you also have to cite how much McCain is going to spend on rentals and crap for his big loser party. See what I mean about Republican voters?

@NN...the last sentence in your third link states this:

"Hospitals spokesman John Easton told the Tribune that Michelle Obama's salary is in line with those of the 16 other vice presidents at the not-for-profit medical center."

I don't think you've proved your point.

@emmag: I respectfully disagree. If we go back to what I said "that Barack tried to get earmarks for the company where Michelle worked and suddenly Michelle received a $200,000 pay raise", my link recounts both parts of that. I did not make any mention of what other people were making - and while I dont know if the othere there normally get $200k pay raises as a matter of course, I have my doubts. Either way, my "relating to the common people" remark still stands, in my opinion.

How'd I miss this fray? @ jsevigny I welcome the opportunity to engage you in some cogent debates about the merits of various schools of thought?

V&H

aka, a proud Conservative, and by Conservative I don't mean that I'm wedded to the idea that things must never change, rather I mean the more 'old school' idea that we must be good stewards of our time/talents/energies and make the best use of finite resources, both individually and as a society, not with an eye to giving everyone equal and meager portions, but rather creating a climate that is ripe for pie expansion rather than pie slicing.
posted 1 year ago
Good stewardship is important, V&H. I applaud that sentiment.

NOW....the GOP has dispatched a lawyer to go up to Alaska and retrieve some of those clothes and do an inventory.

November 30 is as good a day as any. I prefer hubdub markets that settle sooner rather than later. The Republican National Committee will always be preoccupied with something. If the wardrobe issue slips off the radar by Nov 30, most likely it's of for good.
