Who will be President Obama's Chief of Staff?

Settled as Rahm Emanuel

WASHINGTON (AP) - President-elect Barack Obama pivoted quickly to begin filling out his new administration on Wednesday, selecting hard-charging Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel as White House chief of staff while aides stepped up the pace of transition work that had been cloaked in pre-election secrecy.

Background:

Background: With Obama almost set to win the election, the matters of how his cabinet will be made up become more and more pertinent.

The Chief of Staff is one of the most important members of the White House and is also a senior aide to the President. This position is sometimes dubbed 'The Second-Most Powerful Man in Washington.'

6 of the possible choices this year are:

Tom Daschle Daschle is one of Obama's closest advisers and well known in Washington circles. Although a point of contention may be his wife being a lobbyist.

Rahm Emanuel This mans a rising star in the Democratic party, and friendly with Obama, he's also a congressman for Illinois Obama's home state and running the Dem. party congressional election campaign.

William M. DaleyA former Commerce Secretary in Washington

John Podesta Podesta is running Obama's transition campaign to choose Obama's cabinet once he wins. Kind of reminiscent of how Cheney was picked as VP... John also served as chief of staff for Bill Clinton

This settled too early. Emanuel has not accepted the position. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/06/obama.transition/index.html

Furthermore, why would this settle before the selection actually becomes the Chief of Staff. He would not become the "Presidents" Chief of Staff until January 20th. Even if Emanuel announces he accepts the position, there is 2.5 months for something to occur that changes this.
