The history of this question and the accompanying news articles refer only to an "auto czar" and/or a "point person". The individual mentioned as a possibility is an international economics expert from my alma mater.

No mention is made of this becoming a new cabinet position, and I presume that the appointment of ANY individual as an auto czar or point person on this subject will satisfy this prediction as "yes".

Are they actually going to be using the term czar?

@dragonfangxl- from wikipedia: "John P. Walters (Born 02/08/1952) was sworn in as the Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) on December 7, 2001. As the nation's "Drug Czar," Mr. Walters coordinates all aspects of federal drug programs and spending." from blog.wired.com: "President Bush on Monday signed into law legislation creating a copyright czar, a cabinet-level position on par with the nation's drug czar."

@randburg - based on both of the above two quotes, I was assuming this would be another Cabinet-level position like both of the above and the U.S. Trade Representative and Vice President and a few others according to Wikipedia's definition of what constitutes the Cabinet. After all, if you are appointed directly by the President and you report directly to the President, aren't you then by definition a Cabinet-level official? What else could you be under the Constitution?

a advisor would be a cabinet-level offical by that defintion. let's see auto czar and tech czar...wonder how many more new cabinet-level offical's he'll have. so much for smaller govt.

question - how is this resolved if bush appoints one, and obama simply keeps him on?

@BigKen,
While I am not the creator of the question, I believe it asks if Obama will appoint an Auto Czar. If Bush were to appoint one and Obama were to keep him on, then Obama would not have made the appointment leading to a valid reason to settle as "No".

I hope the creation of a car czar never occurs. Government should not be in the business of running business.

Thanks for comments chatarra,
I agree with your 2nd paragraph in theory.
Not sure about the first one though, but thanks.

It has been said on some links to Auto Czar that he already has a person in mind (just got back from shopping so will look for it later).
