WILL America fall into recession ?

Voided

This question is a duplicate of the following question, as for America to be in an official recession it would have to be announced by the following organisation.
http://www.hubdub.com/m15440/Will_the_National_Bureau_of_Economic_Research_announce_in_2008_that_the_US_is_in_recession

The starting odds were also too low.

Background:

Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- When times are bad, you find out who you are.

In some sense, economics is like sports. Sometimes you get slaughtered, but if you believe in yourself and keep fighting, you can win again.

A look at U.S. history suggests that even during the worst U.S. recessions, Americans have been able to turn things around. There were times when things looked so bleak that only a fool might have hoped for a brighter future. Eventually, that brighter future arrived.

Yes, a pessimist might say, but this time things are much worse. I am not so sure they have to be, provided we remember who we are.

Things are certainly bad. It looks like third-quarter gross domestic product growth will be revised deep into negative territory. The data in hand suggest that fourth-quarter GDP will drop at a rate of as much as 4 percent.

Will? I hate to burst your bubble but America has been in a recession for some time now..If you are waiting for a Government official to acknowledge it you better ask this questions; Which will happen first Hell freezes over or the US Govt admits we are in a recession? I will place my money on hell freezing over.

How long of a time, and what figures do you base that statement upon?

GDP down 0.3% in third quarter, http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/national/gdp/gdpnewsrelease.htm.
That is recession, if not you should otherwise "fall into recession" define.

LOL - that is not recession! It is negative growth, and it happens commonly. We had 2.8 percent growth in the quarter before.

Negative growth happened twice in the last two years.

Check http://www.economagic.com/em-cgi/data.exe/bci97/a0q050 for more statistics - especially in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s (This charts GNP gross national product, which was later replaced by the GDP gross domestic product that is currently in use today).

Thanks all, I hope I got it now properly, http://www.nber.org/cycles/jan08bcdc_memo.html.
As I understand the question, it will be settled as yes if the National Bureau of Economic Research officially recognize that America is in recession until the suspension date of March 19th, 2009.

well don't be ignorant, it shows as you knew what it was supposed to be (church) go to bed and get out the right side in the morning, and put the bottle down? or are you just jaundiced?

I don't understand why people feel the need to insult on here. I think its very fair for users who are unsure of exactly what a question means or details about settlement to ask and discuss it in comments. Of course if someone really needs clarity, the best thing to do is flag the question and leave your question/comment for the admin to respond to. I don't think it's right to call names and such just because someone was asking/commenting.
@curios you're settlement info wasn't clearly written in the background or settlement details. If you would like to have something added, please flag your question and request it.

@curios, here in America, people normally wait until there is a disagreement before arguing, so you kind of confused me!

Anyway, we are both saying the same thing.

@notablenotices
when i first joined hubdub there was a hell of a row going. on getsatisfaction , and i said not for me. accusations where flying left and right, i came back in late April and another was on but i decided to stay, the person was being unduly persecuted, although i am English i have been australianised over here we call a spade a spade its not a( b) shovel , we have our disagreements have it out, then go to the pub together and every thing is forgotten!
with all due respect its a pity SOME Americans didn't take a leaf out of our book. incidently i have two cousins living there. cheers Chris

its OK having pride in your own country , but there has to be a reality check the odds wernt set to low it was a tue situation as to a recession, also it is not a copy on

http://www.hubdub.com/m15440/Will_the_National_Bureau_of_Economic_Research_announce_in_2008_that_the_US_is_in_recession
