Background:

As the LG Skins Game begins its second quarter-century of play, this year's Thanksgiving weekend event at the Celebrity Course in Indian Wells, Calif., promises to deliver plenty of the same excitement that made the first 25 editions so captivating.

Last year the final outcome of the 2007 extravaganza wasn't decided until Sunday's 18th hole, when Stephen Ames sank a seven-foot birdie putt to capture nine skins and $650,000 of his $675,000 total in a successful defense of his title. Ames defeated five-time event champion Fred Couples, who finished second with $325,000 of the $1 million purse, while rookies Zach Johnson and Brett Wetterich went skinless.

This year, Ames will attempt to become the only player besides Payne Stewart (1991-93) to win three consecutive LG Skins Game crowns. The 2008 LG Skins Game foursome features two-time defending champion Stephen Ames, three-time major champion Phil Mickelson, five-time PGA Tour winner K.J. Choi, and 2008 U.S. Open runner-up Rocco Mediate.

Format:
The LG Skins Game is an 18-hole event where a player earns money only when winning a hole outright. If two or more players halve (tie) a hole, that hole's money carries over to the next hole.

Each hole counts as one skin; for instance, if three consecutive holes are tied and a player wins the fourth hole outright, he wins four skins and the total amount of money those holes are worth. Holes 1 through 6 are worth $25,000 each; holes 7 through 12 are worth $50,000 each; holes 13 through 17 are worth $70,000 each; and the 18th hole is worth $200,000.

Champion is determined by most prize money won, who will it be?
