What will be the names of the turkeys pardoned by President Bush before Thanksgiving 2008?

Settled as Pumpkin & Pecan

The public has spoken. "Pumpkin and Pecan" are the winning names of the Thanksgiving Turkey and the alternate that the President pardoned on November 26, 2008.

Background:

Every year since 1989, the President of the United States has pardoned a turkey just before Thanksgiving. The origin of the pardon is disputed. Some accounts say that the tradition began in 1947 with President Truman.

This year's turkey and his alternate come from Ellsworth, Iowa, where they were raised by National Turkey Federation Chairman Paul Hill. He was 20 weeks old and weighed 45 pounds when he was driven to Washington. After the pardon, he will be flown to Disneyland, where he will be the grand marshall of Disney's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The name will be decided by online voting.

Not a whole lot of creativity in the turkey-naming department...I would have gone for "arm" and "leg": what the holidays are going to cost a busted economy this year...

@curios - Yes, that's gotten quite a bit of play over here. Here's the youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-kjM1asH-8

If you just google palin turkey you can find quite a LOT of commentary on it!

funny thing about the Palin turkey pardon and subsequent interview while turkey slaughter was going on, is that as sarah said she would be picking up here turkey here...and motioned with shoulder and chin in direction of the slaughterer,,,he was cuttin the turkey's neck.
Palin will do anything to stay in the public eye....turkey slaughtering is not as lowwww as this woman will go. Dan Quayle with lipstick

hahahhehheheaahhee... awesome video!!! One year I watched my cousin slaughter chickens and rabbits that he raised... he didn't have a clue what he was doing... it was great fun watching him try to keep the dogs from chasing the headless chickens... he didn't have the stomach for it so he told his younger brother that if he finished the job he could sell the meet and keep the money. So he lost the money he invested in the animals and feed, he lost the money he spent on supplies to build cages, and his younger brother finished the job and was paid!

Sarah Palin is no wimp... she would finish the job too.

@deelilley - big difference between torturing animals needlessly or raising them for food... my cousin did not grow up to be a serial killer... he became a doctor.

Harold Shipman, H. H. Holmes, Dr. Mengele all grew up and became doctors as well.

Not meaning to be politically incorrect here but I'm thinking Whitey and Darkie....everyone always seems to have a favorite.

And I wish to add I have always preferred the succulent Dark to the dried out old White stuff.
