It wasn't just to save "five bucks."

These are the best deals of the year.

(And hopefully they make sure it doesn't happen again next year)

I foresee a very large lawsuit coming against WM.

That's right...the best deals of the year are worth killing for. Thanks for the correction.

Human life is now valued at less than anything on sale at Walmart! How sad, how very very sad.
My momma always said if you can't say sumthin nice....So I am really gonna try here:
Follow with me for a second ok.
When you are driving down a road and all of a sudden there is an ambulance, or firetruck blaring their sirens, you pull your car over to the side to let them pass. One of those reasons you should do that is because you never know...It might be going to your house. That firetruck or ambulance might be responding to a call about your son, daughter, mother, father, best friend. And surely if you were the person that ambulance was called for cause you were having a heart attack or stroke you sure would want people to get out of the way to get to you, or get you to the hospital.
Why would anyone step on, trample, another human being, not bend over to help them up? The rarity in this human world should not be that a person would stop and help another but the fact that one person would not stop and help; or give a person a chance to get up. That supposedly normal everyday adults, that are not at a convention of murderers anonymous, would all trample a person to death is not comprehensible to me.
For the sake of some material good? I can't help but wonder how many people in that crowd call themselves: Christians, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, and beleive Thou shalt not kill!

And you blame Walmart? The people of the crowd need to accept responsbility for their actions, they need to walk into the local police station and confess their sin of murder.

I agree with deanthoreau that this is sad beyond words, but it isn't new.

It's called mass hysteria: a crowd OUT OF CONTROL. A crowd is totally focused on SOMETHING, but NOT what is going on around them. We have all read how often this happens at British and European soccer matches...at times, a FEW people get trampled at one game, during mass "football hysteria". Sports officials have been trying to find a way to control this phenomenon for years, with not much success...

It's no secret that Americans have turned Black Friday into a "sport"...

I think the police department needs to use a little old fashioned shoe leather to find the shoppers.... look at the video cams in the parking lot and get the liscense plate numbers....look at the video cams and match em up.....This is not that difficult....they do it all the time on CSI in 47 minutes!!!!!

Wow! I cannot believe the police are having such a hard time identifying suspects. Those people who trampled this person to death should be ashamed. I would be mortified and unable to eat or sleep if I was responsible for something like this. But I am not surprised that it happened, what I am having a hard time understanding is why so many people are willing to get up at 3 am on a day when they do not have to work and go to Wal-Mart in the blistering cold weather and fight crowds of angry drivers or shoppers just to save a few dollars on something they don't even need!

It is a tragic story - consumerism gone wrong, perhaps. But my understanding of crowds and trampling (based on mosh pits, anyway) is that you're so packed in that you can't physically control your movement and if someone falls down in the crowd then it's incredibly difficult for anyone to stop and help.

Like the hundreds of pilgrims that get trampled at mecca every year - I'm almost certain that people aren't wilfully oblivious to crushing a human underneath them, but they just get pushed along by the crowd.

I think that's excellent input tisha.

Some of the shows I go to involve huge amounts of people haphazardly colliding with each other. As much as the violence is expected, when someone falls there is almost universally an effort to pick them up. When someone takes a punch to the face hard enough, there is usually some brief pause. I doubt anybody in the Wal-Mart crowd intentionally stepped on this worker. In fact, the way I picture it is a group of surrounding people likely making notice but not being able to physically help.

Once again, these deals are not a "few dollars." While we have become more civilized in modern era on a moral level, you can be certain that we retain our instincts to fight for resources. That is human nature and it has played a most essential role in the development of modern abilities. These deals were huge. They were not the coupons you find in the newspaper, nor the 5% sale at the nearest JC Penny. The money saved here was large enough to draw crowds of people who likely see this day as way to cope with financial set backs.

The poor may find a digital camera too luxurious regardless of the deal. The rich may not need to look for a deal or have the camera already. It is the other people, the bulk of our citizens, that continue their struggle for a higher standard of living by buying certain luxuries.

its a shame for someone to die like this for a savings of five bucks.

Statistics show, (And I did the math Myself Also) That the average person only saves between 75$-200$ on Black Friday. So if you people who are making excuses think that is an excuse to act like a heard of cattle. Then I feel sorry for society's future. I do think the people responsible for the death of this Wal Mart Employee should be charged in a court of law. The actions of these people lead to the death of a person, someone who was probably working there ass off to feed there family. People make me sick, and in my opinion if people are going to act like animals maybe they should be systematically slaughtered like animals,

I think everyone here is totally right. The question is what is going to be done about it. Should this black Friday sale stop there are bigger losses every year. What happens when we go on a food shortage? What then? This needs to stop now! People will start killing others to feed there own it's crazy.
