Will Jason Varitek be a member of the Boston Red Sox to begin the 2009 MLB season?
Current forecast: 67% chance

Combining all predictions, the current forecast is that this is 67% likely to happen (unchanged in last 1 day)
Jason Varitek has played his entire major league career for the Boston Red Sox. A three-time all-star and Gold Glove Award winner at catcher, Varitek was an integral part of the 2004 World Series and 2007 World Series Championship teams. In 2005, he was named the captain of the Red Sox, the fourth player given the honor. In 2008, Varitek caught his fourth no hitter, an MLB record.
Varitek, just like every other free agent in Major League Baseball, is now eligible to sign with all 30 teams. One sticking point between the Red Sox and Varitek coming to terms could be the length, with the Red Sox preferring a shorter-term deal than Varitek might be willing to accept. Complicating the situation is that Varitek, who will be 37 in April, is coming off what is easily the worst offensive season of his career (.220 batting avg)

Will the Red Sox re-sign Varitek prior to next season beginning?
Question will be suspended/settled when a deal is made official or on Opening Day if he has not signed with a team by that date.
