NFL - Will Plaxico Burress be convicted of a felony for shooting himself?

Current forecast: Plaxico convicted of felony (48% chance)
Combining all predictions, the current most likely outcome is Plaxico convicted of felony with a probability of 48% (unchanged in last 1 day)

Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the right thigh and spent the night in the hospital, another dramatic turn in a tumultuous season in which the star New York Giants receiver has been fined and suspended.
The Giants said the shooting happened Friday night and he was released from the hospital early Saturday.

Burress accidentally shot in right leg at nightclub, hospitalized

Gridiron gunslinger Plaxico Burress could get flagged with a felony for allegedly toting a loaded gun into a club Friday night.

Records show the Giants' star receiver does not have a permit to carry a weapon in the city, meaning that he had no legal right to do so in the LQ Club in Manhattan, where he allegedly shot himself in the leg.

Burress did have a concealed-weapon permit issued to him in Florida, where he has a home, but records show it expired in May.

And even if it was still valid, New York does not recognize out-of-state permits.

"New York has the most restrictive pistol-licensing system in the United States," said Thomas King, president of the New York Rifle and Pistol Association. "It recognizes absolutely no out-of-state permits. An out-of-stater never has the authority to carry [here]."

Criminal possession of a loaded weapon is a felony in New York.

HE COULD CATCH A FELONY RAP

In 2006, Governor Pataki signed a gun law which made possession of a loaded concealed weapon a mandatory 3 1/2 year sentence.

With Bloomberg's Backing, Governor Signs Tougher Gun Law

Suspend time set for the end of June. If he is convicted of multiple charges, then the greater charge would settle (felony plus other charges would settle as felony). Also, a plea would settle based on the charge (for example, a plea to a charge less than a felony would settle as lesser charge rather than other).

Settlement details: As reported by a major mainstream news source.

Your right he is a idiot. But hes kinda smart for keeping the gun on the side of his pants rather then the front. I dont think he wears his jock in public.

He's an idiot with a smart lawyer. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I'm going to post a similar question regarding Antonio Pierce. He took the gun after the shooting and tried to hide it, reportedly in New Jersey. Wouldn't that fall under Obstruction of Justice? How about Aiding and Abetting? How about interstate flight? Hmmm, Isn't anything related to "Interstate" a Federal offense? This idiot is going to need a smarter lawyer.

He is a mirror image of Michael Vick. What happened to him? He was caught doing a felony in NYC. There is no room for stupidity in NYC,

I heard this once before but i didnt think much of it, and it was brought up again yesterday as i was watching espn sunday countdown , chris carter said on that show yesterday that 65 percent of the nfl players pack heat. Which to me is crazy, kinda surprising stuff like this doesnt happen more often.

He has already been convicted, in the court of public opinion, for being a total idiot.

they had a number of football players on ESPN who all carried guns, one of whom, Ray Lewis, years ago was not convicted of murder when he shot someone; they all indicated they carried guns because they needed to protect themselves. One ESPN panel football player mentioned that ALL owners provide protection at all time for players if they seek it. so is it any wonder there are so many shootings involving them.
