Will Barack Obama sign universal healthcare into law?

Current forecast: 51% chance
Combining all predictions, the current forecast is that this is 51% likely to happen (unchanged in last 1 day)

Oh promises promises. Although universal healthcare took a back seat to other issues in the general election, during the primaries it was a hot topic. Here's the definition of universal healthcare to clear up any confusion:

universal health care is health coverage that is provided to all citizens of a governed region, and is publicly funded via taxation etc.

@pullover - I would just like to clarify that Obama's plan (which some do not consider Universal since there is no mandate) would count towards a 'yes' settlement?

Great picture btw.

I put the definition of universal healthcare in the background for exactly that reason. I knew that question would come up so I put the definition there to clarify. I can't make it any more clear than the background does. "universal health care is health coverage that is provided to all citizens of a governed region, and is publicly funded via taxation etc."

@pullover - yes I saw that.. I wasn't trying to be argumentative, but there was considerable discussion even in the primaries about what that means. Saying that it is "provided to all citizens" does that mean "available to all" or "received by all"? Tks!

No problem. "available to all" is definitely the correct meaning. Since obviously there are people who don't visit the doctor for 50 years or more, universal healthcare obviously wouldn't be "received by all" but provided to all citizens who seek it.

this will be one of obama's toughest task's. the dem's remeber what happen when clinton tried this. he either has to scale back his plan or add it to the deficit. congress might pass something obama will have to veto. be interesting to see if obama vetos bills by a dem congress. bush wouldn't veto bills from the rep congress..look where that got them. i hear some left-wing blogs are already BMACing about his cabinet selections.
