Illinois Gov. Blagojevich was arrested on Tuesday, will he be convicted?

Suspended

Suspend date reached

Background:

Background: Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested on Tuesday on charges that he brazenly conspired to sell or trade the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by President-elect Barack Obama to the highest bidder.

Blagojevich also was charged with illegally threatening to withhold state assistance to Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune, in the sale of Wrigley Field, according to a federal criminal complaint. In return for state assistance, Blagojevich allegedly wanted members of the paper's editorial board who had been critical of him fired.

A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.

Blagojevich also was charged with using his authority as governor in an attempt to squeeze out campaign contributions.

Corruption in the Blagojevich administration has been the focus of a federal investigation involving an alleged $7 million scheme aimed at squeezing kickbacks out of companies seeking business from the state. Federal prosecutors have acknowledged they're also investigating "serious allegations of endemic hiring fraud" under Blagojevich, who has a $177,412 salary, though it's unclear whether he accepts the total.

Clarification: If Blagojevich pleads out, the market will still settle in the affirmative, Blago doesn't have to be convicted on all charges

He only has to be convicted of one of the charges for this to settle as a "yes," right?

Pleads, no trial?, this is a conviction, right?

That's my question. What if he pleads? Does that count as a conviction? Why not rephrase the question with more options:

1) pleads
2) convicted of any or all charges
3) acquitted
4) mistrial

I am beginning to think that Fitzgerald is a jerk..word is he does not have real evidence. He was unable to do anything worthwhile in the Valerie Plame case, ie the vice president who was his real target. He settled for Libby. We all know how that turned out. Seems to me he does not have a credible crime case.

If the case isn't resolved by the time the market is suspended, how does it resolve? Or will the market be extended to give time for the system to play out?

I received an answer to my question via e-mail. The market will be extended if need be.
